Running BG1 on a Win 7 laptop and the game runs centered and tiny. The video scaling is set to full and the game video is set to full screen.

I've looked extensively online and found a myriad of options.

Problem is(this is my 13 year old's laptop), he also tried Psychonauts and Sam and Max here, and they ran the same way. So, thinking it's more than just a Baldur's issue.

His normal resolution is 1280 X 800. From what I read, that's pretty good for Baldur's, as many suggest 1024 X 768.

He did play Unepic from GoG extensively and it ran full screen. So, maybe just these older games? I'm getting quite vexed and perplexed. The game screen for Baldur's is so small it's virtually unplayable.

I did try compatability, having had Win 7 for so long and encountering this often....put it on run as admin, but didn't change anything else....

No mods running.....I saw the one post here to run Unfinished Biz, but seems a bit like brain surgery, so didn't feel like doing that just yet. Will that possibly fix this issue?

If it matters, we did use the Galaxy beta to start our games.

Right, so no obscure resolution. In that case, install DDrawFix and choose the 2nd option (Use WineD3D DirectDraw) at installation, not the first option, which is problematic with Windows 8. This will cause a delay when starting the game, but it should sort your small screen size out.

I saw this advice.....but it is Win 7, not 8....no difference?....still works?

DDrawFix works perfectly with either Win 7 or 8. Give it a try.

What graphics card?

Nvidia control panel has an option to 'Override Application Scaling' that you may need to tick.

If Intel Graphics, the latest drivers may finally provide a similar option for scaling. Not sure it works on all chipsets yet. (After two years or so of this issue being reported...)

Firstly, DDrawFix was already included in the BG install. In searching for it, I saw a post about this. Confused. What do we need to do. I clicked the application and a dos box came up and I picked option 2. Did not help, though, regardless.

Graphics card was Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chip.....having quite the time trying to update driver, if even needed....downloaded two that said they worked for this, but both quit, stating either not valid for this computer or the last time, it "didn't meet the minimum requirements".....huh? Also tried the Intel Driver Update Utility and another failure....states it's a "customized manufacturer drive and not able to update.....contact the computer manufacturer.........very funny! Shouldn't be this hard to update a driver....wow.

Ugh, sorry to waste your time mate. Never heard of that graphics chip, but probably is too old to have any chance of new drivers fixing the crappy Intel scaling. That message above means your laptop brand / maker has customized the graphics drivers themselves, and you're supposed to check with them for updates, but in my experience (mostly ASUS) they never bother to update anything. There IS a way to install the native Intel drivers, but it is possibly risky if something goes wrong and it might screw up windows. I have not attempted it myself so I'm not about to recommend it.

As for DDrawFix, because I do not own the GOG versions of BG (only the CD ones), I'm not sure what setup they have; never needed to use DDrawFix.

Have you tried disabling 3D Acceleration in the BGconfig.EXE program? (located in the game install folder) - That seems to be the method people suggest.

Can't seem to find this config file....the only one we have in the Baldurs folder is just called Config and opens up in game options...nothing to do with running the game. Do you mean a different folder from the game folder? Don't think I have a separate "install" folder

billybgame: Firstly, DDrawFix was already included in the BG install.
Uninstall it, then re-install using the second option. To uninstall, go to your BG game folder and double click the setup-ddrawfix.exe file, and choose the uninstall option.
