Well. We all have our favorite characters and we've explained why multiple times over. Now I got to ask. What is your favorite class for the primary character for both BG1 and BG2.

In Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, I love the Cleric/Mage Dual-Class combo. Being both the primary summoner and healer helped me out in many encounters in the game.

However, second to that was the Fighter, built for DPS, dealing death with my sword, usually a great sword. I tend to play a Human for my fighters however, where I use Half-Elf for my C/M.

So whats your favorite Class? Or Classes?
It's hard to pick just one becuase different classes fill different roles.

I really want to say Ranger/Cleric becuase of how much I like them in IWD but I haven't played through BG with this characters. As of now, my vote goes for the FMT for the sheer versatility.

inb4 Kensai/Mage
Paladin. Carsomyr.
Berserker (13) Mage (28). Or Beastmaster (12) Cleric (38). Start in 1 as human. In 2 they pick kit and dual. Maybe i lean a bit more over towards the Beastmaster/Cleric, because i find having ALL divine spells pretty invaluable. Especially for solo.
Sorcerer. Nothing beats the flexibility and fun of being able to cast spells without having to decide 1 day before what you're going to cast.
For me it's Fighter-Mage dual.
I dual at lvl 3. I'm not a power-gamer, all I want is the ability to cast spells and chop enemies with a sword :D

On the other hand, even though I've played the game several times, I was always either a fighter or a mage or a thief, or the mixture of this 3. I don't really experiment with classes, maily because I'm very bad with D&D rules :/
How very interesting that virtually all replies so far denote playing BG1 in the overpowered TuTu/BGT. Does nobody play vanilla any longer?

As for my favourite, in BG1 (vanilla) anything but mage and that one spell per day. In BG2, I tend to go for a build that allows for dual wielding katanas, but not all of the time. The bottom line is that I don't have a real favourite; I go with my role playing, and choose appropriately.

Well, as soon as I knock a few more games off my backlog, I'll be starting up my 4th playthrough from BG1 and yes, it will be vanilla. I was never a fan of the kits in BG2 so I never saw a reason to mod BG1 for them. :/
1? I always play it vanilla, myself. Would have it none other way. 2's mechanics in 2 are grand, but in 1 simply plain terrible.
I'm playing BG1 for the first time and I'm not using any mods either. Maybe on a 2nd playthrough I would try some out but in the meantime I'm playing as intended. I'll be going into Tales of the Sword Coast right after and then I haven't decided whether I will import my PC to BG2 or just remake him.

Anyways, speaking for BG1, I am a fan of the cleric and the ranger. Single or dualed together. I always make myself human too. I am a role player as well.

I like ranger because they are formidable fighters that can be on the front line or hang back with a bow or crossbow and shoot enemies from a distance. They are survivalists who will never get lost in the forest or mountains. They can have animal companions and cast divine magic at higher levels. Also have stealth skill.

Cleric because they are versatile imo. Being the healer, buffer and have access to some offensive magic. They can wear heavy armor and shields which gives them great protection and they can use maces, hammers, morning stars and flails to cause physical damage. They also can turn undead.

I also love mages too but I haven't played one enough in this game to know alot.
I'm falling out of favor with paladins even though they are traditionally my main. They're rather redundant in BG given the plethora of healing options available. Might as well forgo the paladin's limited healing options and martial expertise in favor of the fighter's balls out weapon mastery. Although paladins get an exclusive greatsword that is arguably the most powerful weapon in the game.

Interestingly enough I am beginning to understand the value of druids. I didn't used to get druids. Now I do. High level druids are the most balls awesome spellcasters in the game. Even few mages have them beat in terms of devastating spells that pwn. Druids come packing innate high damage crippling AoE spells at mid level that own entire mobs. Their squishy nature make them less than suitable for PC.

So my most used class is Paladin. Cavalier specifically because as a front line tank one gets little use out of bows and arrows anyway. On my current playthrough I've rolled a fighter so I can dump grand mastery into weapon specialties until I can sneeze in somethings general direction and obliterate it XD

Lets not forget wildshape :P
I'm not exactly good at Infinity Engine games, mostly because pen & paper D&D bores me to hell and back, and I'm way too old and tired to be bothered with learning all the details and specifics that make me "take the most out of my play throughs", so I just tend to stick with what I feel comfortable with, despite the alleged "usefulness" of the class or how good it is for an über-l33t POWER PARTY.

I know my choices are not ideal and seem, in fact, a bit odd, but I've always had a fondness for the thief class, so I usually end up creating and playing as thieves or, given the chance, a more durable fighter/thief. I'm aware of the fact this makes my games a bit harder than what they were "supposed" to be, but it's the way I enjoy playing them.

Fighter/Thief simply rocks. Thief alone, though...

I've had a lot of fun with an assassin thief-kit in BG2. Underwhelming in combat, sure, but the poison attacks do really make up for it, and he one-shotted Irenicus despite being way below the level cap. (He only did the evil quests. Or at least not the goody-two-shoes ones. That didn't leave much to do in the game.)

Fighter/thieves are much better though, and probably win my vote for favourite class, especially in BG1.

In BG2 sorcerer might win out. You can't go wrong having that many spells to cast.
