Hello everyone!

Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWgc20zbRXk

In this video he just talks about the outer part of it. I thought it was a great commentary. I didn't really question why the developers chose to put DT where it is in the game, so I thought that was kind of insightful. The thing about the guards before the dopplegangers was a little obvious I thought; but the analysis wouldn't really be complete if he left that out.
Actually, Durlag's Tower was placed where it was because the map does not cover where it actually is, which is way north east of Gullykin, near to Berdusk, according to Volo. It was added in the expansion, and (presumably) that was the most relevant 'free spot' on the map.
Here's episode 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2M3WgBaFm4E

I just noticed I made a mistake in the title. It's supposed to be Extra Credits, not Extra History.

Thank you for sharing. It was lovely to watch.

Interesting. Is that information in the game or manual, or do you know that from a different source?

I always thought it was close to Gullykin... This is because in the game (even without expansion) when you arrived in the village there was a dialogue where you could say that weather is not good for a trip to Durlag's Tower. Which I always interpreted that it meant it was a short (a day or two) trip from Gullykin.

It's according to page 90 of Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast. He starts off by saying:
"This massive, isolated keep stands atop a rock pinnacle south of the Wood of Sharp Teeth. Only adventurers should
approach this seemingly desertedfortress -- death awaits within."

There is a map by him and Elminster showing exactly where they place it. Most newer maps place Wood of Sharp Teeth too far south, and the vast majority of Baldur's Gate maps are way out of proportion to where places actually are.

Thanks for the info. Always nice to learn more about this classic game.
I really enjoyed those youtube videos. Looking forward to part 4. Thanks for posting them!

I'm glad you folks are enjoying the show!
That is a lot of fun to watch and good at giving ideas to people who are into or planning to create games of any type.
Part 5 is up!

Thanks for putting up part 5! I don't mind at all :)

I liked this last video the most. The rubric they used for their analysis was well established by this point, allowing them to pick up the pace but not leave out any information. They do leave out some plot stuff, but I think they're trying to keep it as spoiler free as possible.

They are releasing it faster than I am able to watch it. Which is sad for 5 minutes long videos. :-)
But I like it so far.
It provides interesting insight and makes me appreciate the game even more.
Although sometimes I wonder if they don't see more in some decisions and layout than therer really is.

As I watched the series I felt like the game was new again - discovering the tower as if I never played it.
