The kit is considered weak for a reason... and this still probably makes it slightly weaker than standard sorc if prepared. But in a more pure "I have not memorized the game" run I'd take them every time. if:
Give them the shorty bonuses to saves.
And no mod needed. Just roll a halfling fighter, set all saves to 0 and level to 0 in EEKeeper. Set base HP to 0 and current to 1. Remove weapon profs. Level up on entering the new saved game.
Plays into the "tanky" theme mechanics. Is a fitting kind of benefit for someone with dragon blood anyway. And nets you a character with a little less offense, but far greater resistance to spells and a small resistance to melee early on when it's relevant. Immunity to Power Word without having taken some damage. A much better "first run" or "I forget the details" character.
