I'm Trying to get debug mode to work but to no avail. Using windows 7 I edited the baldur.ini file fine and saved it, but the window won't open in game for it. Any ideas?

Works for me (Win7 Pro 64 bit). Are you using CTRL+Space to access the console in-game?

Yeah, I've tried both Ctrl+ Space and Ctrl + Tab as other websites have suggested and I've also tried having the line say Cheats=1 but none have worked yet.

How do you set it to run in XP compatibility mode?

Right-click the desktop icon for the game. Choose Properties, then go to the Compatibility tab. The top section is where you set the compatibility mode.

You don't need to type anything. Just right-click on the desktop icon. Select 'Properties' at the bottom of the pop-up. The next pop-up will likely be on the 'Shortcut' tab. Choose the 'Compatibility' tab. At the top of that is Compatibility Mode. Check the box beside 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' and choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3) from the dopdown box just under that. At the bottom, under 'Privilege Level', check the box beside 'Run this program as an administrator'.

i meant in game, i hit control+Shift and a blank box appears but nothing i type works... just keep getting errors and no money cheat (the only one i use).

Check your BG2 configuration file. It's in your main BG2 folder and is simply called 'baldur'. It will have a small cog on the file icon. Open it with Notepad (make sure you're running Notepad as Admin) and check uder the [Program Options] heading to see if you have the following line:

Debug Mode=1

If it's not there, add it in exactly as I have it above (it's case sensitive and you need the space between the Debug and Mode).

If that's not the problem, then you have me stumped. The only other thing I can think of is you're not typing in a proper cheat command. Can you post what you're using?

Turns out there is a way to give yourself access to the program files folders, it's just stupidly complicated. Right click the folder and go to the Properties tab, then click advanced and go to the Owner tab. Add your current user as owner. Then when you click edit in the security tab, you'll actually be able to change permissions. (Give yourself write and modify).

I did all this, but now, every time that I try to open BG2, I get an error messasge stating:

An Assertion failed in ChDimm.cpp at the line number 628
Programmer says: Unable to Open BIF:dataWHd0GMosc.bif

The 'W' next to 'data' has a horizontal line through it. I tried turning off the UAC, but that hasnt helped. I tried using the folder to open it instead of the shortcut, and I still get the same message. What happened, and what do I do to fix it?
