hi there,

I bought the "BG series" (BG1/2/Planescape/ID/ID2/...) from GOG about 10 days ago. In total I paid about 29$, with the impression that GOG only sells games that will never be released again.
But today, I spotted the DnD Anthology Edition (on iGN) and was surprised to see it being offered for about 19$ (www.atari.com/buy-games/action-adventure-fighting-rpg-strategy/dungeons-amp-dragons-anthology-master-collecti on).

That's the way economics go one would say, you (that's me) agreed to buy the item for the price mentioned. But still : I thought this site was initially built by gaming enthusiasts and it would've been great to have seen this mentioned somewhere that a collection was forthcoming. I'll certainly won't lose any sleep over that 10$ but it "feels" odd..

That's the way it is. GOG is expensive compared to collection versions found in stores. But you do get bonus content, easy download and no DRM.

But I see you point. This is why I wait for sales a lot on games that cost 9,99.

Still, if any game is worth the price, it's the Baldur's Gate series and Planescape: Torment.

Thanks a lot, I stand corrected as you certainly raised good points (eg : no DRM / ease of downloading and so on...)

They certainly are : I have the boxed editions but I bought these again (call me nuts) to have a verified copy (as I have such fond memories of BG and especially Planescape Torment).

It was literally 6 dollars a week or so ago. It was a crazy deal, and even if I had most of the games (was only missing a digital version of BG1 AND Torment) it was too good to not take advantage of. Sure, I don't get the bonuses from the GOG version, but it was a damn good deal

I wouldn't feel sorry if you have the GOG-version. AFAIK, the gog-versions of BG1 and BG2 are fully compatible with Windows 7 and very well modable.

Remarks are popping up (http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/180/index/9609705/) that the Gamersgate versions of Baldur's Gate are not compatible with Windows 7, nor are they compatible with the Tutu and BGTrilogy engine conversion mods. My advice to people wanting to buy the Gamersgate-version is to wait for more reviews on how compatible and modable they are.

By itself the gamersgate version does work with windows 7, but it IS missing a file that is vital for Tutu.
Hell, in fact it seems that the gamersgate versions there are more or less (less, since it is missing a file) rebranded gog versions, even having goggame.dll there.

Edit: BG2 and IWD2 are the ones that have goggame.dll

I won't do that. I have paid full price back in the day for the CD-ROM versions of Baldur's Gate I + II, Tales of the Sword coast and Throne of Bhaal Planescape Torment and Icewind Dale and even bought a collectors DVD version of BG I + II + expansions (cheap, just to have the easier DVD version, and my CD's got scratched).
Then, I bought them again on GOG, for the ease of install. So either I won't call you nuts, or we both are :P

Pardon me all for the "delayed" reply, finally started playing Mass Effect 1 after all these years :) And of course been enjoying Planescape Torment... Again... This time the GOG-edition :)

@Luisfius : it was indeed an awesome price, I bought them when you also received one title for free.
@Dub : I was thinking the same and also reading that they weren't Win7 compatible. Forget I even "complained" as my GOG versions are working splendidly :)
@Gromuhl : welcome, there are only awesome people in this club! Nuts... Nuts? Nah, just REALLY REALLY REALLY dedicated and showing the love.

I wish I had noticed this before posting. I'm the guy who posted that bioware thing, and I had just made a post now on this forum warning people by posting about my experiences.

Anyway, to the original poster, don't feel too gypped. If you're not planning on modding, and the games you bought worked, you can still play them.

It's just the one game I wanted to work, didn't... which caused me a bit of frustration is all.

Weird, I bought that anthology pack and I have had absolutely no issues with any of my games in it. I've got all my infinity engine games running with the fan patches, widescreen patch, and UI mods (if needed) on a Windows 7 64 bit OS. I'll do some research and see if it is true that Tutu and Trilogy are not compatible. I personally doubt this to be completely true but I will see and post results in a while. One thing I do know is that the Atari installer doesn't make registry entries for the game which doesn't make a difference for any Weidu based patch but makes old school things harder to install if that's what they look for.

EDIT: EasyTutu works perfectly fine if you add this file (http://www.mediafire.com/?wbmw34lms9k2p46) to your Baldur's Gate 2 install folder, it was seemingly left out of the installation which is silly but it's an incredibly easy fix.

Well there's your main mistake, they don't claim to be the sole sellers of the old games that they stock, you can buy plenty of games on here elsewhere but GOG arguably provides the better service.
