Hey everyone just noticed a problem with Siege of Dragonspear.

On previous versions of BGee & BG2ee a Cleric/Mage could put cleric spells into Sequencer and Contingency spell but the new DLC and the patch for BG2ee has changed that and only mage spells are listed.

Tested it on BG2ee and TOB and now only mage spells can be put into Sequencer & Contingency spells.

That's a shame cause i really liked putting heal spells at the ready especially Lvl 6 heal spell into a Contingency much later on.

No, as it shouldn't be. The ability to put cleric spells into a Sequencer/Contingency is what makes the Cleric/Mage class interesting and unique.

Wrong, as it should be. Contingency is an evocation sorcerer/wizard spell, which should call on a companion arcane spell. To place a divine spell onto it is just abuse.

I said 'should', not 'must'. It was an opinion, as is my reply.

I don't know if it's a game exploit or if it's legal in P&P no idea but i wish i knew before i started a new character.

Getting close to wrapping up the main story before SOD and only just now found out, a bit annoying but hardly a character breaker.

I don't see it as an abuse; I see it as making use of a nice synergy between classes much like, say, using Draw Upon Holy Might to improve your thief skills.

Should I actually play an EE game that implements this nerf to Cleric/Mage, I *will* be looking for a way to mod this back to the way it was originally.

I don't think the Sequencer spells exist in P&P. Contingency and Chain Contingency do, and their descriptions (in the Player's Handbook and Tome of Magic respectively) do not specify whether they can be used only with wizard spells or with priest spells also. However, some Googling suggests that this came up in a Q&A column in Dragon (the official D&D magazine) and the answer was yes, it worked with priest spells.

The new patch just came out v2.1 and the Minor Sequencer now lets me use Cleric spells, i haven't tested the other Sequencer's or Contingencies.

Pardon my bumping this old thread, but I've recently found out that, contrary to my previous post, Spell Sequencer and Spell Trigger do exist in P&P (Minor Sequencer does not as far as I can tell), though they come from a fairly obscure book. Their descriptions both explicitly state that priest spells can be included.

In fact the P&P versions go further - the spells to be included in the sequencer need not even be cast by the same character who casts the sequencer, but can be cast by another cooperating caster. There are other differences from the game version, e.g. damage-dealing spells activated in a sequencer always do maximum damage (which would have been verging on the game-breaking if incorporated in BG2). And canonically these two spells were known only to one extremely powerful Forgotten Realms NPC, who would only teach them to player characters in truly exceptional circumstances or, more likely, never.

In any case, given all of the above it's basically beyond doubt that it should be possible to put priest spells in a sequencer or contingency, and that it is no kind of "abuse" to do so.
