I've been playing BG2 (plus mods) for a while now (I'm in chapter 2) with no issues. I try and start it today, the screen goes black, then returns to desktop. I haven't made any changes since I last played it a couple of days ago, but all of a sudden it won't even start.

I don't see what could have changed now to cause problems. Anybody have any ideas/a similar issue?

At what stage does the screen go black and dump you to the desktop? You have mods installed, so a copy/paste of your weidu.log would help.

Right at the start. I select the startup icon, the screen goes black, which it normally does prior to loading the logo screens, but instead just dumps me back to desktop.
I wouldn't have thought the mods were an issue; as I said, it's been running fine up until now.

That's not much to go on. Have you scanned your system for malware? Have you checked your drive for errors? Without more information, people like myself will be just taking long shot guesses.

Yes to both. I know it isn't much to go on, it could be anything. I was mostly hoping that there was a known issue, and I wasn't the only person this had happened to.

If I was to do a full reinstall, would I have to add the exact same mods in order for my current save files to work with it?

That entirely depends on what mods you have installed.
