I'm assuming your restrictions are:
-Mage, Cleric, Druid, or Bard must be part of every party member's build.
-Preference for females.

If we take only females, then you immediately have
Dynaheir - Invoker
Jaheira - F/D
Branwen - C
Faldorn - D

The 5th NPC will be either Imoen or Viconia.
-Imoen starts as a thief, but she can immediately dual-class to Mage.
-Viconia is a cleric, but she may present an alignment problem.

If you level Imoen as a Thief for a while, then she can cover the Thief skills for you and CHARNAME can be whatever you want. You'll have to determine whether Imoen being a single class thief for a time is acceptable under your restrictions.

If you dual class Imoen immediately, then I suggest some kind of Thief multi-class for CHARNAME. Your call whether you go with T/C or T/M. T/M might be slightly preferred since you'll have 3 divine casters and 2 arcane casters.

If you take Viconia, then I suggest using a Thief/Mage multi-class for CHARNAME. Such a multi-class will give you access to Thief skills and to the Mage spells that Dynaheir isn't allowed to use. Also, you already have 4 divine casters.

Neera is a Wild Mage, but her casting has reliability problems. I don't recommend taking her, but because of class redundancy, she can replace pretty much anyone.

The only really noteworthy male is Tiax. As a C/T, he can cover the Thief skills for you, replacing any of the clerics or druids from the above list. He also can summon a ghast for the front line.

All the other eligible males do basically the same thing as one or more females from the above list. Yeslick might be the next most interesting male, since he brings Fighter levels along with his Cleric levels.

I'm pretty sure Jaheira and Faldorn don't get along

If you want to dual-class Imoen to mage and would rather not have your character be a thief of any kind, there is the option of Safana (Thief) rather early in the campaign.

Or, if alignment isn't an issue, you could get Shar-teel (fighter, chaotic evil) and dual-class her to thief. She has low CON (9) but her strength would be handy for backstabs.

Bard kit protagonist (since there are no female bard NPCs, all kits are good)
Imoen (having no one to disarm traps is annoying, take 4-5 thief levels before dualing to mage)
Faldorn (only way to get level 5 druid spells)
Branwen (to get cleric spells)
Jaheira (as fighter)
Neera (the random factor makes the game more interesting)

GameBanshee has some information on companions. You can check it up either before or after you decide your party.

I create my entire party. Have done so since the game came out when I discovered you could do so using multiplayer mode.

It takes a while to roll elite stats for all of my 6 party members, but they TROUNCE the pitiful choices that can join you in -game.

If you want a female-only party, I would suggest:

CHARNAME - Bard or F/M
Jaheira - F/D (or Faldorn D in the later chapters)
Viconia - C
Imoen - T dual classed to M
Shar Teel - F dual classed to T (for backstabbing and to replace Imoen)
Dynaheir - Invoker

and then you're good. :)

You may want to recruit Branwen and Safana instead of Viconia and Shar-teel respectively, if you want only good or neutral NPCs or if your Rep is too high (should not be a problem for most of the game).
