Ergos: Try this:
open baldur.ini in a text editor, look under [Game Options] and change both "Low Mem Sounds 1" and "Low Mem Sounds 2" values to 1 (default is 0), i.e. it should be like this
Low Mem Sounds 1=1
Low Mem Sounds 2=1
Just be careful that running bgconfig may reset those settings to the default values undoing the fix. So, once done using bgconfig, you should check again baldur.ini and, if necessary, put those values back to 1.
That fixed it, thanks! One other minor thing, no big deal if it can't be fixed, but I'm using the expanded palette from One Pixel Productions and every time I load my game my CHARNAME's hair changes to a different color other than the one I picked for him when I made him. I can change it back easily enough, I was just wondering if there was a way to keep it from changing when I load the game again. And whenever I play the game in a resolution other than native 640x480, the edges of the screen get cut off as though the game is slightly too big for it.
EDIT: I found fixes for both those other issues. Using Shadowkeeper to set the hair color makes it stay, and I've found that playing in a window using a fullscreen borderless gaming program fixes the issue with the edges of the UI getting cropped.
