Hi,
maybe I am not the first one who has this question, so excuse me for a possible spam. I would definitely like to buy Dragonspear, I played both BG1 and BG2 many times with all official datadiscs. But I own only classic versions. I understand that I will have to buy enhanced edition, I have no problems with that, but is it possible to play only the Dragonspear? Or is it an integral part of BG1 and I need to start playing the main campaign first and then enter Dragonspear (like f.e. Tales of the Sword coast)? I would love to enjoy SoD, but I don't want to play the whole BG1 in this moment. And can I start with a new party? Or do I need to have a Final save from previous playing of BG1?
Thanks

Yes, it is possible to play only the SoD portion of BG1:EE.

OK, thank you very much.

Lebesgue: Yes, BG1:EE is missing the original intro, and most of the cut scenes (if not all) have been replaced, same with some original artwork.

phaolo: Is it true that the EE also miss the original FMV cutscene sequences? O_o

Thanks, even if having to restore good original content in a Definitive Edition via mods is absurd. :\

Thanks, I did not know you can restore the original movies. It is ridiculous that Beamdog decided to substitute their own aweful crap.
Hi everyone,

I've just read the flow of negative reviews for this game and am really disappointed.
One of them mentioned that the release of this game comes along with a bunch of bugs that will also impact BGEE 1 and 2.

Could anyone confirm ?
If yes, I'm screwed. I bought both of them in order to go through the whole story.... I guess I won't.

Thanks in advance

Many of the negative reviews are focused around politics and not gameplay. I would ignore them.

But yes, the newest patch introduces some annoying bugs. None that severely hinder the playability of the games, but still makes a worse experience than the unpatched version.

I would really just wait for some more patches to fix the bugs introduced with 2.0.
Metacritic is deleting many negative reviews, even few thousand signs long.

So:

- a technically crippled product that's not even fully compatible with the original version (save, character corruption)
- no compatibility with mods
- encounter structure showing that the dev was not interested in making a BG title, the actual game is just shovelware placeholder
- the game is a placeholder for one's biased pov
- which is delivered in the most cringy, talentless way of straightforward shoving it down your throat (hi I am GAY, I'm saying it to you stranger because it's cool to be gay RITE) by one of the most corrupted SJ activist out there - it's a classic Gamertale tale, really: a long running franchise with huge playerbase counting decades now gets a shoveled down propaganda bit riding on nostalgia blackmailing, made by people who have no idea about the franchise and how it should be done properly, just to cater their POV to the masses in the most patronizing, bigotted and arrogant way possible.
- the developer and the lead hack-writer get a ton of positive reviews just because they need some advertisements
- the developer on the forums begs people to troll sites with 10/10 reviews because they can't accept the negative response from the playerbase
- metacritic censors players' ratings

= a classic Gamergate tale, really.

It's extremely sad to watch.
Technically crippled is way exaggerating. There are some minor, but annoying, bugs.

Mods just need to be updated for a new version. This isn't exactly uncommon with PC games.

The negative reviews are 99.99% from an organized campaign of GamerGate man-children, most of whom haven't even actually played the game, who are upset that a game contains a reference to a transgender character (one that is a bit clumsily introduced, granted). That, apparently, is horrible blasphemy to these mouth-breathers. Just ignore them, they'll crawl back to their mothers' basements and start some new hate campaign against the next "Feminist Conspiracy" pretty soon. It would be a bit amusing if it wasn't so sad and pathetic.

As for the game itself: so far, so good. It's a bit linear (but large parts of BG are, too), and there are small bugs here and there. I have faith they'll be fixed quite soon, it's nothing game-breaking. The writing is generally pretty nice (with some lapses), and I'm having fun with it. No idea yet of how it rates as a whole, but... it's a worthy mega-DLC addition to the game series.

Assuming the small, annoying bugs introduced with the patch get fixed soon, and assuming the game quality keeps up to the end, I'll be a happy customer & gamer :)

The only one who is organizing fake reviews influx based solely on one's agenda is the developer:

It's not really a fake review if you're not a misogynistic homophobe who is enjoying the game though is it?

“If there was something for the original Baldur’s Gate that just doesn’t mesh for modern day gamers like the sexism, [we tried to address that],” said writer Amber Scott.
Even if there hadn't been LGBT content in SOD, this statement is reason not to buy SoD.
Many social justice wariors are trying to fix problems which never existed and Amber Scott is one of them.
Only mentally ill person can label original Baldur's Gate as sexist.
And even if original Baldur's Gate had been a little sexis millions of people loved the game.
Baldur's Gate is something like Holly Grail of RPG for many people including me. You should treat such franchise with great respect. Abusing Baldur's Gate to push SJW agenda is sacrilege.
Reviews of SoD should be warning example for all social justic wariors trying push their agenda into RPGs. Many RPG players including me hate social justice wariors and if writers start their social justice war it can have tragic consequences for the whole franchise.

You mean that if I do not enjoy this expansion means I'm a homophobe?
Nice one, sir! The deductive method of a certain mr. Holmes is certainly evident in such a nice, educated and well-manered english gentleman as you!

It's a typical sjw's mindset line of defense.

In my review I clearly stated that any topic or theme can enhance the overall writing and storytelling qualities, IF it's done properly and with modesty. If they're implemented for the sake of storytelling, and not for the sake of pushing themselves just to force reactions. Eg. are the original Fallouts. Even if they have pretty mediocre quality of writing, the "progressive" themes can be found there, including GASP gay romance, you won't find NOBODY yelling "SJW PROPAGANDA, LIBERAL TYRANNY, SICKENING PERVERSIONS". Because they were put there without any kind of patronizing, arrogant and bigoted message, stereotyped and mary-sued to the limit that would qualify them as a primitive political and ideological propaganda. I think even if I was a typical postmodernist progressive activist, I would feel offended how the whole SJW message had been put in Siege of Dragonspear. It's insulting to everyone, almost comedic in its stereotypes. It would be an equivalent to the supposedly opposite message: where the player character would be a buffed straight white male with blond hair and blue eyes hunting for slaves and rescuing princesses that scream "PLEASE FCK ME, MY MAN, I AM YOUR WOMAN I WANT YOUR BABIES IN ME". It's wrong and just sad in its hopeless quest of sending any effective message at all.
It also clearly uses the video game medium as a placeholder to push one's agenda. No one cared about the game itself during its development. It's half baked, looks worse than the original, it has a plethora of bugs, including save and character files corruptions, destroying the multiplayer, bringing uncompatibility with mods without any reason, a bonkers difficulty setting problems than can lead to save corruptions, an uninteresting and uninspired story that's just an excuse to include another batshit badly written dialogue (think of fanfiction.net quality) that can't hold itself and assaults you with unfunny memes and ideological messages written by a declared SJW crazyman who is filled with hatred towards everything and everyone who doesn't agree with her opinions and can't defend herself other way than using slurs and invectives. The gameplay doesn't matter in the game and encounters are one of the laziest ones I've seen in my life.
