Hi everyone.

I've finally convinced my wife to play Baldur's Gate through with me. However, we can't seem to get our computers to connect - at all. I've opened the required ports 2300-2400 and 6073. Both at TCP and UDP. I've allowed exceptions through my firewall as well. When we try to connect via TCP/IP, her computer says that she cannot find/join the the session. I've checked the IP address via /run cmd ipconfig/all and that wasn't the answer either.

Also, I plugged in a ethernet cable for an attempt through LAN. Still no cigar.

Other than the methods mentioned above, I havn't the slightest clue how to configure the multiplayer through any other means.

If anyone could help us out through a step by step process, I'd be very thankful!

- Are you sure, that your firewalls are totally disabled on both sides?

- Try using Hamachi. Set up a private network. Both join the same private network and then run the game connecting via TCP/IP with the IP address provided by Hamachi.

There might be an issue with BG not accepting local IPs. Can you post game host IP which you have used?
Do both computers have static IPs?

- Try using IPX instead of TCP/IP. (You must install it first on both computers.)

("Control Panel - Network Connections - Select the Network connection (Right Click, Properties) - Install - Add Protocol, select the IPX protocol and then apply the change. Reboot the system.")

Thanks for posting, Straceniec. As far as setting up the IPX, I'm running Windows 7 on this computer, and her computer is Vista. I got as far as finding the network connection and properties, however there was no option to install any protocols. Simply two tabs: Security and Connection.

The IP address is a little funky. Whatismyip.com tells me it is 24.63.202.54. ( I don't know why it IS this. I tried Hamhachi once and was a deer in the headlights. Maybe something got messed up?) However, /run cmd /ipconfig/all tells me it is 192.168.1.3. I've tried both, as well as 192.169.1.1. Still no cigar!

-- Oh, I managed to get her computer rigged for IPX. Not this one.
-Another update. IPX does not come up as a valid internet option. While both computers have had the Reliable Multicast Protocol installed, there still isn't a connection. =/

I'd recommend using GameRanger.
We tried using Gameranger but one of the players kept getting dropped as soon as they connected to the lobby.

I checked up with Gameranger, it works fine and no crashes or drops to lobby*. (But I personally don't like the idea of using always on internet requirement)

So I dug up another another method...(if you use Windows 7 or Vista) and its via IPX.

1. Download IPXwrapper from -> http://www.solemnwarning.net/ipxwrapper/
File should be -> ipxwrapper-0.3.1.zip
(Extract the files to a folder)

2. Run the 'directplay.reg' file, to import some IPX registry keys.. (its the merge option)

3. Copy all the DLL files in the zip to your game folder, there should be 4 DLL files

5. RUN 'ipxconfig.exe' file -> select your Network adapter -> enable (put tick) to 'Enable Interface' -> apply and close it (you won't need it again)

6. Now run the game

7. In the Multiplayer option there should be 'IPX' option to choose for Protocol, change it to IPX and host a game

8. On the other system on LAN, do the same and join the 'IPX' game you just hosted.

*** (confirm if it works).

@Knightoflodis, I hope this works.
