I skipped the betas in the end. Didn't want to risk it.

and yes it turned out I was trying to install it in the wrong place. Pretty sure everything is where it should be now. Combined the two games into one using BGT and also added the unfinished business bits to the game again.

hmm when i tried to install the bg2fixpack it gives me error that i dont have the cd in the directory. any idea whats the problem?

Do you have the GoG version? If so, it sounds like you have applied a patch. This is not necessary with GoG version as it's fully patched, and the patch will break the DRM free status.

ok so it works now.i guess i tried to put it in the wrong directory.

although now i cant seem to make bgt weidu work,it just gives me a rar file,and nothing else.

i cant even extract it,since its seems like a single rar file and i dont have setup_bgt.

I just purchased these games too and would like to play them for the first time. I've waited much too long.

Anyways. If I run the BG2fix file it gives me a compatibility error. If I extract with 7-zip I can see the setup file now but if I click it it still gives me the "did this install correctly" dialog.

I've installed BG2 to the default C:/gog games/Bg2 folder. I have admin privileges. I am installing it in the BG2 folder, it gives me no error in that regard.

I don't know what you mean. I have no idea what you have already done, so please explain in detail your problem.

As far as the BG2FixPack is concerned, when you install it you are presented with options -- follow the instructions in the Command window. Once you have installed it, there are no more options... it's done.

I installed both BG1 and BG2. I then tried to install BG2fix and it gave me that compatability error. The setup file was not in my BG2 game folder. So I deleted all the fix stuff (folder and a debug file) and tried using 7-zip to manually install the folder and setup file. When I click the setup file that is now in the game folder it gives me the exact same message about compatability. The command window flashes on the screen for a second and it does stuff but I get no chance to enter any options or change anything. I've tried re-downloading the fix in case it was corrupt but that was not the case.

The problem is, I'm not presented with any options.

Actually, I just ran it with windows XP SP3 and as admin and I am getting options now. Will edit the results.

EDIT: I just ran through the whole BG2fix command window successfully. I was able to select all the options I wanted and it said everything was ok. I am no installed in program files, it's in C:/GoG Games/BG2.

Make sure you don't have BG and BG2 installed in Program Files, that is probably your problem.

i started playing the game and I was wondering how can I be sure that Baldur's Gate 1 is now using the Baldur's Gate 2 engine?

Since I haven't played the game before I'm not really sure how to evaluate it.

Baldur's Gate 1 will not use the BG2 engine unless you have installed either TuTu, EasyTuTu or BGT. Once you have installed one of those, you run the TuTu BG executable (if you opted for TuTu), or the BG2 executable (if you opted for BGT). If you run the BG1 executable, from the original BG1 installation, you will not be using the BG2 engine.

Another way to check is to hold the TAB key in-game, because in the BG2 engine this highlights items that are interactive -- this doesn't happen in BG1 engine.

Thanks I'm sure I have everything working now. (and yeah I'm able to highlight items with the TAB key) The loading screen tips also mention BG2.
