Hello there GoG community!

Got a weird problem with BG2. Just recently bought it, it runs fine and I was about to have a nostalgia-gasm, but I can't level anyone up! Whenever someone gains a level, all I get is a screen to increase proficiencies in weapons and such. No stat increases, health increases, I can't even pick new spells :(

Anybody know what might be wrong?

I've tried cheating to "give experience" but that doesn't work either, same thing - I just can't pick any stats to increase, and characters' health doesn't go up either. :(

You don't get stat increases in BG. Divine casters doesn't pick up spells at all, wizards are supposed to get spells from scrolls and bards/sorcerers get spells only on appropriate levels.

You are probably mistaking it with newer games that uses 3rd Edition of DnD rules (like NWN). BG series follow 2nd.
problem is I'm apparently level 5 with a whopping 47 HP

:(

Most things one shot me...

If your hero is a casting class it's not really a problem - but a feature
Wizards have only d4 (+ CON modifier) for rolling health.

What enemies do you fight? There are not many things that inflict 47 damage per hit.

Clerics gain 8 HP per level + max 2 from CON, that's max of 50 HP on 5th level. They can even have as low as 22 HP. (1st level always get full health)
Rogues even get only 6 HP/lvl + max 2 from CON, granting HP between 20-40 on 5th level.
Then wizards get 4 HP/lvl + max 2 from CON, on 5th their HP range is from 18 to 30 HP.
Only fighter classes can get over 50 HP on 5th level. They get 10 HP/lvl + 4 HP from CON 18 (it can get even higher but only dwarves can start with 19 CON). It means their max health on 5th level is 70 and lowest one is 34.

This means they surely level up.

Oh, wait, I just noticed, do you play BG2? Then why are you level 5? I think your character starts BG2 at level 6-8 (according to class) .
alright, so to test this out - I enabled cheats and gave the characters full experience point - I still only have a very small amount of HP at level 19 :S

Am I missing something or just thick? o_O

Post your char's class and stats please.
Difficulty novice and normal have maxed HP rolls.
Core, hard and insane are rolled with a dice.

If your a mage, your lucky to break 70 HP at level 19. After level 10, you only gain 2 hitpoints per level, so whatever you have at level ten pretty much defines how much your going to have for the rest of the game.

Correction: fighter-types earn 3 HP per level after 9, cleric/rogue types earn 2, and mage types earn 1.
