Hello!
I've installed Baldur's Gate 1, and selected "new game". I create my custom character, and everytime I click on "Accept" to start the game, it crashes. :(

I have to close the game using the Task Manager everytime, and the same thing happens even if I choose a pre-made character. I have tried running it with compatibility mode (Windows 98/ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP SP3) and it still crashes. I'm running Windows 7 32-bit.

I really want to play this game, and if someone could help me out I would be really thankful.

Is your game installed to 'Program Files'? If so, uninstall it and re-install outside of Program Files, somewhere like C:\Games\Baldurs Gate\

If that isn't the problem, make sure that your antivirus isn't interfering; disable your A/V or make a rule to mark BG as trusted.

Hi Hickory, thanks for your reply.
The game isn't installed to "Program Files", it is in "C:\GOG Games\Baldur's Gate".
And I tried disabling my antivírus, but it didn't worked :(

But a weird thing happened: the first time I started the game today it didn't crashed! I quit the game and started it again just to be sure it would not crash anymore, and now it's crashing every time, just like it was before...

No, I don't have any mods or fixes installed, the game was installed just yesterday.

You might want to ensure that GameSpy is disabled in the ini. Just add the following to the [GameSpy] section:

Enabled=0

Other than that, the ini looks fine. The only other thing I can think of is to make sure your graphices drivers are up to date. Go the the website of your video card, download the latest drivers and install them. It may sound like an odd thing to do, but I have heard of people with this issue get results by doing this. It's worth a shot, anyway.

I think I may have solved the problem: the target for the game's shortcut is "BGMain.exe", so I tried running "Baldur.exe" (which starts the game launcher) in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode, and apparently it is working now!

Also, I haven't noticed it before, but I do have a weidu mod installed, it's called DDrawFix. But I haven't installed anything, so I think it was already included in the GOG setup file.

I think you're right, I tried running BGMain.exe and it's working!

Anyway, I'll restart my computer and I'll run the game without starting the launcher first, just to be sure this is indeed the cause of the issue.

EDIT: Yes, I guess that was the problem! I ran the game before running the launcher and it crashed; Then I ran the launcher first, and it worked fine.
