I've installed BG2EE in the default location on my Windows7 (64bit) PC and I'm interested in some cheating possibilities and possibly also in some modding possibilities (never tried modding before). Apparently for this I need to access the baldur.ini file but I cannot find it: the game location "GOG games/BG2EE" doesn't contain a baldur.ini file and the "search" also doesn't find a file with this name. I've noticed that some posts on this forum address the same question but I found nothing of help. In particular the link C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files does not contain any references to BG2EE.

So the question is: where do I find the baldur.ini file of BG2EE in Windows7 (64bit)?
Thanks for any help.

The enhanced editions no longer maintain a baldur.ini. It has been changed to baldur.lua, and is found in documents, inside the BGEE folder. You must also be aware that any guide to editing the baldur.ini is no longer relevant, since the .lua uses a completely different format.

Thanks for the info. Are you in fact saying that the use of baldur.lua is not yet understood (i.e. I should forget it)?

Not at all. Explain what you want to do.

My first idea was to cheat: I had spent 8-10 hours building up a fighter that I wanted to dual to a mage but then I noticed that he missed 1 strength-point - so I thought that maybe a cheat would allow me to add that missing strength-point :-)
But my real interest would be in modding: there seem to be some good mods that remove the experience limit and also allow unlimited munition stocks and if it's not too difficult I would like to do that.

I dont think you can do these with the ini file cheats. You can use EE keeper to edit your saved games. I am guessing you are trying to enable the cheat console.

Actually, you can cheat yourself one of the Strength boosting manuals and read that to get 1 point of Strength.
If I may suggest, maybe Weimer's Ease of Use mod?

Hmmm. Don't find that for EE, but Gibberlings has it as a package for EE. I'm pretty sure it's Weidu, so you can just say "No" if you don't want a particular mod, or even parts of the mod, and take only the parts of Ease of Use you want.

Yes that was my first idea. But how would I go about activating the cheat console and what are the commands to create items? Btw I'm now building up another berseker/mage where I was more careful with my strength points so I expect this one to work but I guess that I'll encounter more than one situation where some particular item is missing so that item creation would most likely be interesting.
Thanks for mentioning https://sourceforge.net/projects/eekeeper/ : the authors state that it works on Windows (this includes Windows 7 64b I guess) but the linked page contains some support tickets which state that it crashes when loading a savegame. Have you had any practical experience with it?

This looks like a huge list of mods - most of which I don't understand (I played the original BG a number of years ago but I don't remember much of it). I would guess that I cannot install it with just a few mods and re-install it later to add some more. About installing it: is it simply enough to download it and execute it? With my thanks.

There is always a chance of corrupting the save game so we save it as a different save after we do our chances. It never happened to me.

This comes back to your original question, so I shall answer it. To enable cheats in the new baldur.lua, quit the game and open it (found in Documents) in notepad (NOT a word processor, because it must be raw text) and find the section containing "Program Options". Insert the following line in the 'Program Options' area:

SetPrivateProfileString('Program Options','Debug Mode','1')

Then save.

As for the command, I will give you an example of creating a tome to give you +1 STR:

C:CreateItem("BOOK04")

You can find more commands and item codes online.

Weimer's Ease of Use is obsolete and it has been replaced by BG2Tweaks, which in turn is obsolete too and it has been replaced by The Tweaks Anthology.

The Tweaks Anthology works on all Infinity Engine games. This includes

- the original BG with or without the TotSC expansion
- the original BG2 with or without the ToB expansion
- the original IWD with or without either HoW and TotLM expansions
- Planescape: Torment
- IWD2
- Tutu
- BGT
- IWD-in-BG2
- BGEE
- SoD
- BG2EE
- IWDEE
- EET

The Tweaks Anthology replaces the following obsolete mods: the BG2 Tweak Pack, the G3 Tweak Pack, the Tutu Tweak Pack, Wes Weimer's Ease of Use, the Icewind Dale Tweak Pack, the Icewind Dale II Tweak Pack, the Baldur's Gate Tweak Pack, and the Planescape: Torment Tweak Pack.

I noticed that the Friendly Item Drops tweak, which is the one I am actually most interested in, is now available for IWD:EE. I think I may use that tweak mod when I get around to playing that game, along with a few other tweaks like IWD-style proficiencies (I don't like how Baldur's Gate 2 increased the number of proficiencies) and un-nerfed Sorcerer spell progression (to put it in line with other pure casters in that game). Thanks for posting this.

By Jove - I never realized there were so many ways of modding and cheating ^^
I'm going to try the Tweaks Anthology and the cheat console and have a look at the savegame editor too.
My thanks to all the posters in this thread who have so generously shared their info.
