Ever since the infinity engine games got updated with Windows 8 support and started to use the new installer - I get massive screen tearing when playing them in full screen no matter what I do or the settings I have (I'm on windows 7).

I think it has something to do with the self imposed ddraw "fix" that wasn't there before - but when I uninstall it manually from the folders the games won't even start properly. So it's massive screen tearing or no play at all.

It does make me lament the fact that I didn't save the earlier versions of the games since they worked just perfect. I did find a previous GOG iteration of Planescape Torment on one of my external hard drives and there is no comparison between them at all - the new one tears all the time and the older has no such problems whatsoever.

Anyone know if anything can be done? I have of course tried turning vsync on and off on my GTX 660 Ti card but it makes no difference. And, like already said, the same goes for uninstalling, trying to bypass this ddraw "fix" that apparently didn't need to be fixed in my case.
The 2.0 installer is broken. It wont even recognize 2 of my pc computers, one which is vista, another which is 7. They messed this all up.

I had a slight problem as described in this post but nothing like you're experiencing:
http://www.gog.com/forum/planescape_torment/possible_aspect_ratio_issue_with_the_new_planescape_20_installer

I sent GOG a support ticket about my problem to make them aware in case there were other problems with the 2.0 installers, but they told me to just use my GPU scaling settings as a fix. I don't think they understood that this wasn't a problem with the old installers despite me explaining it to them. This really needs to be fixed, i've re-downloaded the Infinity Engine games twice now and it's starting to get old, not to mention this downloading will eventually cause wear on my hard drive.

Edit: I tested my PS:T 2.0 version and now that you mention it, if I look closely I see some slight screen tearing in it too. It's not the worst tearing i've seen and it isn't that bad, though I can't say if this was present in the older version installer as I never really played around with that version much.
I don't know what is in the BG installers
For BG2 use OpenGL
If you have BG1 and there is a setup-ddrawfix.exe run that and uninstall that mod.

Fullscreen vsync is broken by ForceDirectDrawEmulation which is applied by that mod
This is stated clearly in mod readme. I also warned GoG not to apply ForceDirectDrawEmulation as default because it breaks vsync.
Apparently they felt more people benefited by having a game that "just works".

Note:
fog-of-war flickering/tearing can occur on certain resolutions that can be chosen with the widescreen mod. This is a problem with LCD monitors.

@haydenaurion
You take the time to message GoG and replay on forums,
but you can't be bothered to take the ~15 seconds to uninstall the mod and see if it is the actual cause of your problem?

I did uninstall the mod, I stated that in my reply in the other thread, the old aspect ratio problem still happens unless I change GPU setting so I don't think it's the ddfix mod that's the cause, at least not for me. I think mine and everyone else's problems has to do with something else GOG changed in the 2.0 installers for the Infinity Engine games, granted i'm not having quite as serious problems as others here and others have no problems at all, but i'd like to know for certain that these installers aren't going to give me serious problems later on before I waste my time making back ups of the games.

Edit: In other words, we've established that the screen tearing is caused by the ddfix, though the screen tearing is very minor (almost unnoticeable) for me. What i'm trying to figure out is what is causing the other issues, my minor aspect ratio problem (which i've worked around) and deathknight1728's problem with not being able to install the games at all. I still think there's a minor issue or two with the 2.0 installers for the Infinity Engine games, all I wanted to do was bring GOG's attention to these issues a few of us are having in case there was something wrong with the installers that GOG missed, I didn't mean to start a ruckus or anything.

It sounds your're trying to delete the files from the game folder completely instead of using the setup exe to do it, that might be why you're unable to play the game afterwards.

Leave the ddraw fix files where they're at, don't delete or move any of them yourself, then go into your Planescape Torment folder and find an app or exe that should be called "setup-ddrawfix" (no quotations), double click on it to run it, a window with black background and white letters should pop up, then follow the instructions displayed to uninstall the ddraw fix.

Edit: I forgot this was a Bladur's Gate thread, but the same should apply to the other Infinity Engine games as well.

Hey man, I got a question. Will that apply for me since I cant even install that? Do you have any ideas for how I should fix it? I sent a ticket up to Gog but they wont even get back to me.Maybe I should use my laptop. That wont install but instead of it saying that something is wrong, a black box appears and disappears, strange if you ask me.

I have no idea, that's kinda why I was trying to draw GOG's attention to the 2.0 installers as I still think there are a few other problems to fix with a few of them. Maybe try re-downloading the games? I had a problem with Sacred Gold freezing up my PC one time, turns out it was a corrupt download so I re-downloaded it and then it worked fine. Sorry I can't help you better, i'm kinda newer to PC gaming, though I have learned a little bit from being on GOG.

Edit: I would also suggest not using the GOG Downloader unless you have to as it's been known to be a bit buggy though if you haven't used it to download games it might just work better by chance. Use your browser to download the games if you can.

Edit 2: Don't know if you use a 64 bit Windows, but try this suggestion: http://www.gog.com/forum/baldurs_gate_series/baldurs_gate_2_wont_launch

just want to report that I've purchased BG1, installed it, and have no problems running it. I'm running a Windows 7 machine 64bit too. Not sure if it's any help to know that someone else has got it running. I made sure to install it to a folder I created directly on the C: drive - I don't plan on running EasyTutu or any of that the first time through. Just a widescreen mod and some bug fixes.

That's strange, I just installed it to the default "GOG Games" file and i've had no problems other than the odd black bars across the top and bottom thing. Again, I didn't have this problem with the 1.0 installers so i'm quite confused as to what changed to cause these issues. I wonder why only some are having problems with the 2.0 installers?
Not totally sure about what is going on here. But a quick reminder, BG2 could be quite different from other IE games because it consists of 3D acceleration and OpenGL stuff, which BG1 and PST don't.

Awesome! I never had screen tearing in the game before. Then I started it up after a long time, and I noticed I had screen tearing. It could be the newest installers since I re-installed with them, but I really have no idea since it's been a while since I played.

Anyway, I gave that a try, and it fixed the screen tearing! I was ready to try the "Application Compatibility Manager" to see if I could fix it with that since it's good for fixing olde games, but it was easier to just un-install the silly "mandatory fix" they impose on some of their games smh.

:)
