When they put these on sale there was a mention in the article that achievements for EE are coming in the near future. Wish I could find something from Beamdog with a time table for that. I feel like a second class customer to Steam who also gets update before gog.
When are they coming?
I'd guess achievements for BGEE 1&2 and IWDEE will come whenever that feature finally gets implemented in the Galaxy client. When THAT will happen, I have no idea...GOG is great but very slow with updates and improvements across the board. That's why most of the time when it comes to purchasing PC games, I get new games from Steam and old games from GOG.
Oh is that right? I was under the impression Galaxy had the achievements integrated for a few games.
Why do you need Achievements?

Not every game has to be like this: http://armorgames.com/play/2893/achievement-unlocked

It's genuinely sad to see what has happened to the gaming industry. And gamers for that matter.
It is sad what happened to gamers if they would insult others for liking what they don't like. I don't need achievements, but I'm interested in the ones the devs decided to add. I find them fun, the same reason I play video games. This really isn't the thread for how achievements killed your father. I'm just curious if there's been any follow up to the announcement.
Achievements are the reason why I am playing BGEE editions on Steam even tho i bought them 10 times on GOG.

I checked after your post and I believe some games do indeed have achievements in the Galaxy client, so...I have no idea why the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale EE games don't have achievements up yet. Maybe Beamdog haven't okay'ed it with GOG yet, or maybe GOG is just slow with updating the games. Either reason wouldn't surprise me.

I assume that Beamdog has to modify the games to use the gog functions for the achievements. I don't think that there is anything that gog can do…
I would like the achievements for 2 reasons:
1. Steam has them, therefore we should as well
2. They offer unique challenges and a way to say "I finished the vanilla game"

If that's the case, it's strange that Beamdog hasn't gone through the GOG achievement process on their end, since they have with Steam a long time ago. The Beamdog-specific version of the games may even have achievements at this point.

So I don't know what's the cause, but I hope they come soon. Achievements aren't everything, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't played a game longer than I needed to just to get them. They're a good way to enhance replay value with minimal effort.

It may not be that easy…
Any update on this? It's a shame that GOG versions of games have to be 2nd class citizens when it comes to achievements...

Nope. Not yet. As of this post there are 1942 games. It's too big of a task for GoG. I don't think achievements are coming here. Where would they start? The newer games or the older ones? Should popularity be considered? What about price? Would GoG make the achievements or would the developers? Would they be able to retroactively give you an achievement for something you've accomplished?

You would need someone to play through each game multiple times, to make sure the achievement is both meaningful and feasible. I don't see GoG having the money and manpower to do that. I honestly don't think any big ticket corporation would be able to do that with all 1,942 games. It's too much work for too little pay-off.

FYI, any new game the devs add achievements not GOG. Also, I find them largely needless.
