Just reinstalled Baldurs Gate 3 on my new computer, the only save files GOG restored were from the very beginning at the beach! GOG still reports all my achievements and 42+ hours spent playing my previous game. WTF?

Does anyone know how to retrieve save files from GOG's cloud or why this has happened?

Their cloud service appears to be absolute tripe, this happened to me on Witcher 3 a few years back.

Ridiculous.

Copy the save files from your old computer.
C:\Users\***account name***\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames

just to be clear, any save made before patch 7 will NOT run now so you need to start a new [patch 7] game

also adding ANY mods means the save file needs those mods in order to boot

Unfortunately I don't have those saves as I built a new computer, didn't predict their cloud save feature was going to screw me again all these years later, but here we are.
To a programmer like me its really infuriating how people keep falling for the most stupid trends.

If you dont pay anyone for the cloud, then you dont know if your data is safe. That means you dont know if it will be there tomorrow, or if someone will copy it. Nobody had to made a calculation that they pay people with skill or that they have to make backups or that they should make the architecture secure.

So if either of these things happen, you have absolutely nobody who is responsible and can be blamed. Because you havent payed anyone. You have no actual contract to sue anyone for damage.

Yes I know the cloud was "cool" but people really need to understand the limits of what computers do.

I guess you can leave data like gamesaves there. Its not such a huge loss if they are lost. But dont be surprised if it happends. Because it will happen. You're not paying anyone for this service, thus nobody is responsible. All you'll get is a "sorry", at best, if there was a problem.

AI is by the way also such a super stupid trend. AI is a good technology for certain applications. But it is not universally good and it cannot solve just any problem.

We dont actually know what intelligence is and thus we cannot actually create an artificial one.
Cloud = someone else's computer.

Do you have a source for that? I couldn't find anything about that via a web search, and the official patch 7 announcement even mentiones several patches to older saves (just search for "savegames" in the text).
