we will not be playing bg3 against Stadia players... which pretty much fucks non-Windows users
Not surprised in the least. XD I do feel for anybody who bought games for Stadia though, and I hope they manage to get full refunds.
I was actually considering getting the Stadia version just for controller support. I was waiting for a big discount. I hope the devs don't throw controller support out the window.

They did.
I just started re-playing D:OS2 with a controller. It's a bit annoying because you have to have the controller connected at game start (there's no way to switch between keyboard and controller mid-game), and some things (like crafting) are a bit tedious, but generally speaking controller support in DOS2 is surprisingly good.

Since BG3 is based on the D:OS2 engine, I have to believe it'll be offered. I haven't actually tried, though.

Has anyone tried starting BG3 with a controller connected?

It doesn't work. Larian made this statement two years ago:

"The PC version of Baldur's Gate 3 does not currently feature controller support. In a Steam community post, Larian Studios states that the game only works with keyboard and mouse controls on Steam at the moment".

The statement is from October 2020, so I boot up the game just now to see if anything changed. The game actually recognized I had a controller (https://imgur.com/a/8kKimFN). This is not a message I got before. I checked the options to see if I could switch to controller, and there's nothing that lets me change my input device.
I never saw that statement, but a lot happens in 2 years. Interesting to know that they're doing detection for it, and that message is telling. Sounds like my prediction wasn't wildly inaccurate (Local co-op makes me think maybe they'll do a split screen mode or something. That could be pretty awesome!)

Either way, sounds like they're headed in that direction, which I think is a good thing. Thanks for testing!
So it was true what people said.

Should CDPR buy the technology? Sometimes they got for damn low prices when big companies doesnt need it.

Yeah, I managed to play Elite Sniper 4 on Stadia. I find it odd, they didnt even release own games before shutting it down, as far I know Stadia had own Dev Team.

the idea that there is a zillon players out there with money to rent games, great internet and crap computers unable to play their games single player but willing \ hoping to play against their mates + trust Google to make it all work like magic?

everyone knew Stadia was dead long ago but it does worry me that Larian [according to them] had no clue until reading the press release from Google the other day... i mean if thats true then someone at Larian didn't do their job and thats on the company leaders

on the bright side it will make release day move up because they don't need to waist time getting it all working on Stadia now
