It also requires 146 GB of temporary disk space. What the... Seriously, why? The previous patch was about 120 GB. What's going on? Is it because of Galaxy, are Larian doing it wrong? Does it make more sense to just delete and reinstall the game?

Would that be the small update I just got that was oddly titled "Dec 22 2023"?

Since I installed the update from the GOG launcher, the game doesn't even start. Anyone else experiencing the same problem? (iMac M1 running under macOS Ventura 13.6.1)

Well I uninstalled and reinstalled, then started the game, and it took about 5 minutes to start the first time. Works fine now.

I didn't have 145 GiB free for the upgrade, so I reinstalled. Before that I had 98 GiB free, after everything I'm left with 81 GiB. So the patch added about 17 GiB for some reason.

The first time I started the game it said it's checking it, which took about 10-20 seconds, then nothing happened for about 5 minutes, then the launcher started as I was about to kill it. Apparently it's doing something on first time that takes a long time and shows no prompt.

So if the game doesn't start but the "Play" button in Galaxy is still disabled, give it a while.

on PC you get a 30mb update that just set the build number

on Mac you get the 1.7G "Patch5_Hotfix2.pak" file with downgraded textures ... makes it a bit more cratoon looking but Larian couldn't help fucking up other code like temp killing Karlach in order to get a robe now breaks

the first delay starting is your system has to swap out textures... once it reaches 100% you get the save/ load screen

note honor mode only has one save and Larian server drops the handshake so if you tick 'cross saves' and crash at exactly 33% after pressing load [or continue] its their server... just try again, it tends to work the 2nd time

Lets try by-passing the gog/larian launcher and see if the game runs.

Can you try launching the game directly from the exe? (bg3.exe ?) I don't know what the Mac Version is called but I'm guessing here. Make a short cut to the exe. IF the game run, then we try to figure out what is up with the launcher.

Hey, ok that sucks. The only 2 ideas I have left is -

1. the Mac version of updating your video drivers?
2. in the bin/ folder, where the bg3.exe is. Is there a file called Galaxy64.dll? try renaming the file to Galaxy64.dll.bak OR move the file somewhere else and see if you can boot the game directly from the exe.

I'm pretty much out of ideas. My only option is to start reading threads about Macs. I've never owned a Mac, but used some during school. Best of luck, hope the issue gets fixed.

Just to give you some update on the current post. With the help of GOG support tech, I reverted the game to the previous version, and after another verify/repair, the game is now working back. I should be very happy but not completely, as I refuses to load my saved games, only let me start a new campaign... anyway, I'm making some progress.

Hey thanks for the update. Sucks about he saves not working, If you scroll through the save, maybe if you match the version number of your game with the version you saved - it might work?! I guess you probably tried it already.

But over all I'm very happy for you the game is now at least working. Maybe this time you could make different decisions and have a completely different experience!!

Guess what? After updating my Mac to the latest version of Mac OS Sonoma, and upgrading the game to the latest patch once more, and verify/repair, it finally manage to work! I couldn't believe it, it even allows me to load my saves... so happy. It took me about 10 days, but now it seems to work normally :-)
