Does anyone know why wands were removed from BG3 when they existed in BG 1 and 2?

Just curious.

Thanks
there are wands in BG3 but they tend to be plot items and not common

Wands were needed in the first two games because arcane casters didn't have anything to attack with once they ran out of spells, compared to martial classes who can attack indefinitely (in theory). BG3 remedied this problem with cantrips, which is probably why we don't see many wands.

Edit: typo.

There's one wand that, as far as I know, isn't a plot item. It's got some pretty niche applications, though.
the broken fireball wand is nice ... i assume thats the one you are thinking of
Indeed we again cant craft scrolls or wands, and this time around we cant even find much in regards of wands.

The idea that Cantrips would be able to stand in for a wand of fire or a wand of summoning is rather funny.

All in all I like D&D5 but you dont get as powerful as a spellcaster as in D&D3 and before.

The ability to scribe scrolls would be something I'd like to see modded. For all spellcasters of course.

I found the fireball wand and the Act1 Nerco wand.

A Wand of Wonder would be fun.

Also, a "Deck of Many Things"!!

Well, the Deck of Many Things is really an item for levels at if not beyond 20. In BG3 we are limited to level 12, and from what Larian Studios are saying, thats all we'll be ever getting.

Also in computer games I'm not sure its such a good idea anyway. You dont have a reload button when you have it in tabletop.

Aww, really? :( Despite my preference for RTwP D&D games, I must say that Larian have done very well on BG3 and I was looking forward to continuing my adventures to level 20 and possibly beyond.

(Although I suppose they have kinda written themselves into a corner regarding the fates of several major Origin companions so I can see why they might decide to end the story here.)

No the reason they gave for no levels beyond 12 was that they dont know how to implement those highlevel spells.

Which is kind of funny because they havent been that close in implementation to many spells already anyway and everybody else has happily comes up with something for stuff like Wish.
Well they did what they could in BG-3.
I have to wonder if any of the staff coding this thing, BG-3, played BG-1 or BG-2?
No one knew how to write code for a wand, sad.

Alternatively, you could ask if the devs of bg1 and 2 ever played a D&D table-top campaign. Wands do not fall out of the sky in such campaigns. And they are quite costly if you buy them from merchants.
