When I go to launch the game, I get a black screen but can hear the intro movie. Specs are

Win7 64-bit
AMD Phenom II dual core
Nvidia GTX 550 Ti

This is being played on an HDTV. The game launches in full screen, and the TV tells me it has switched to 720p mode. Specifying 1920x1080 in assassins.ini (which was blank for some reason) does not help. If I alt+enter to window mode, the TV reverts to 1080p mode, and I can see the windows desktop, but the window for AssCreed is still black.

Drivers are up to date, and I even reinstalled them to be sure. The only thing I'm aware of is that the GOG installer wanted to reinstall Physx for who knows why, but failed because it couldn't find a file in my Temp folder. However, I'm not entirely convinced this is the issue.

Any ideas?

This question / problem has been solved by Goworimage
I fixed it. I had the display settings set up to show windows assets at 150%, setting it back to 100% fixed it. Which means I'm going to have to change settings and log out/in every time I want to play the game. That's ... cool, I guess.

kodeen: ... the GOG installer wanted to reinstall Physx for who knows why,...
This discussion and another got me thinking. I did some research and can find absolutely no indication that PhysX is used in Assassin's Creed (original) or the Director's Cut for PC.
In fact, I found two places that stated the game engine is Scimitar and the physics engine is Havok.

So why in the world would GOG make us install or update PhysX?
I wish GOG would explain.

Nevermind. I'm going to start a new thread for this. Sorry.

Go to game shortcut properties, to compatibility, and check the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" checkbox - that should work without changing those settings every time.

I've since finished the game, but I'll keep that in mind for future games that might have this issue. Thanks!
Bonjour,

Hello,

I've tried the solution you mentioned above, but it does not work for me. I've tried it both way, I've tried also to turn off a second monitor, but it is still there. Any idea what can be wrong? Do you need any information about my PC?

Why has this been marked as SOLVED when it's obviously not the solution? In the shortcut created by the GOG installer, this option is checked by default, and still people are having this problem (me included).

I think it wasn't checked by default in the installer which was released back then.
Please contact our Support, they should be able to help you with this problem.

I have the blank video problem. I found that if you activate compatibility mode and select XP or Vista, or even Windows 7 it will fix the blank video.

It appears that AC is a Vista DX10 era game, and has some issues with Windows 7 (and possibly later versions)

In my case disabling Vsync solved the problem.
