This will certainly take some time, but we can expect some serious improvements in the game. Just look at what Freespace Open achieved, it's just amazing.
Are there any Arx fanbase sites out there???

I've had a quick look around and I cant seem to find any....

Gexecuter: So is the source code for the patch only or for the full game? I have heard some conflicting reports on that front, i woul love to get some confirmation.

Arkose: This is the entire source of the full game, but being source-only it doesn't include the assets (textures, music, etc.). This lets the developer/publisher still make a full profit from the game while allowing the fan community to make major improvements (just like Freespace 2, Duke Nukem 3D, etc.)
it allows them to make full profit on a game that still, after the new patch, is unplayable AND allow the community to fix it for them and no cost.
Hi guys!

The Arx Fatalis installer has just been updated to 1.21 :)

Nice, thanks !

awesome :) you guys should publish a news about it, it doesn't happen too often that it's the developer itself releasing a patch after all those years, let alone the source code
For geeky people like myself wanting to verify the file integrity externally, here are the hashes for the new installer (1.0.0.6):

MD5: 0DD8EC13C10146DB1A741258B624040A
SHA-1: 30F8045B1C12753F9944622134773C74838E1787

I'd have to disagree. This patch has fixed my number one issue, the black screen when loading certain saves. That alone makes it worthwhile in my eyes, but on top of that it has fixed EAX, improved performance on some systems, and added an alternate rendering setting to experiment with. I can cope with the occasional crashes and rare super-speed during an enemy's death animation (GOG's compatibility tweaking in the new installer may have reduced those too).

Most developers wouldn't bother patching a game this old, and even fewer release the source so fans can improve it themselves. Arkane has done both. :)

The store page hasn't been updated to say it's Windows 7 compatible?

I also second the suggestion of making a big deal about this in a news post because this is certainly a patch that previous players will want to return for.

Thanks for the quick implementation. :)
And thirded, please post this as news.
I had to give up on Arx 6 months ago due to fatal error crashes and black loading screens.

Am trying again with the new patch - so far not one problem (about 3 hours in). I'll report back if there are any issues.

big ups to Arkane - not many (any??) developers will go back to such an old game and fix it for todays users!

And +1 for making it a news item as well
Thanks GOG!
I'm having trouble with jerky cutscenes. Now that I applied the patch and reduced the settings to supposedly make the game run faster, the cutscenes are completely screwed up.

Is anyone else experiencing these kinds of errors?
I bought this game from both Steam and GOG in hopes of making it work on my system, but to no avail. So far, this patch seems to have done it. Massive props to Arkane Studios - well done and thank you!!

Note that both the GOG and Steam releases now include this patch; you won't need to install it separately in the future. :)

Yes, I have jerky cutscenes. Laggy almost. The text also seems slow.
Anyone know if there's any source modifications in the making now? Cant find any.
