I'm going through the game again. Thanks to the newest patch, the game runs great on my Windows 7 computer (especially since I can pick my resolution) and killed all the crashes I was having.

Enough about that.

I know how the enchant object works. I've made the last game weapons before.... but I have a couple questions regarding some mysteries involving enchant object to other armors and weapons.

I've gotten this information from an FAQ.

Garlic Powder (dexterity bonus)
Amikar's Rock (indestructible status)
Bone Powder (strength bonus)
Dragon Bone Powder (LARGE strength bonus)
Green Potion (gives weapon poison damage element)
Golem Heart (gives weapon paralyze ability)

For obvious reasons, our nameless hero says "I can't do this" when you try to rub a Golem Heart, Green Potion or some (Dragon) Bone Powder on a piece of armor....

Amikar's Rock works for armor - perfectly. Makes it invulnerable. That's wonderful.

Garlic seems to do nothing. I know it stated "dexterity bonus" in the FAQ, but I've smeared all sorts of garlic all over my stealth armor set, and I don't even get one additional point in dexterity, stealth, technical skill.... in fact, I don't notice I can do anything.

I'd say the same goes with my Inut's Bow. I did a little experiment. I gave my bow a golem heart, enchanted it, and shot many things in an attempt to paralyze something. I got nothing. Does this not work for bows?

Currently, I have some dragon bone powder smeared on it, but I have no idea if it actually gives it an attack boost or not.

Does anyone know anything about this? I'm assuming that since the game allows you to do it, that it actually does something....

Any answers would be greatly appreciated....

Simply because no one else has answered, I am going to say two things that are obvious and not helpful at all.

1. Have you tried it on the arrows? Any effect?

2. Does it change the stat that shows up when you mouse-over the bow?

Hello,
Lord Inut's bow is a magical item and therefore cannot be enchanted. Only non-magical items can be enchanted, try on a regular bow instead.
As for garlic, it gives a dexterity bonus only to weapons, it is useless to combine it with a shield or an armor.

It's true that only non-magical weapons can be enchanted, but amazingly, someone forgot to set the flag on Inut's Bow (and Sword): you can enchant it, as done by LythaJuliania in her Let's Play:

You can enchant armor (it will glow properly), but it won't grant any stat bonuses when worn (LythaJuliania did that too , 'cause she likes the green glowy look).

However, poison and paralysis effect only work on the weapon that strikes your enemy - a bow can be enchanted for Str or Dex, but you have to poison the arrows, as fjdgshdkeavd said. I don't think you can actually enchant arrows though, so you can't have a paralysis bow (which would be horribly, horribly overpowered).
Thanks for the tip Curunauth, I really didn't know Lord Inut's weapon can be enchanted
Damn, that chick got skillz I like her vids :D

I completely agree!

I recently discovered her Let's Plays while trying to determine if my recent unusual run in Arx had slightly bugged some NPCs (it had, not that it caused any problems), and I've watched a bunch of them now -- she also did pacifist [no damage] runs of Thief and Thief 2, which are worth watching. I really like her running commentaries, she's definitely vaulted into position as one of my top 3 favorite LPers, possibly tied with DeceasedCrab - he does more games, but Lytha has a much nicer voice ;) .

Actually though, I like her challenge-gamer style, it inspired me to do my own challenge runs of Arx:

1) super thief, only raising Dex, bows, and thief skills - turns out not hard, I love bows. But Liches can instantly and silently kill me at any range (even without line of sight!) with some mystery spell, thanks to my abysmal HP - so I have to hit them several times very quickly at max range. Almost done, I've just sampled all the multiple "endings" and am deciding what to wear for the endgame [I can put on Ylside armor by wearing every stat boosting item, wielding a dragon-bone dagger, and using the game's single bless scroll, but my casting level is too low to do it myself, thus if I take it off I can't put it back on].

2) - Next up: an evil wizard who only raises Int and casting skills, never uses any weapon, never uses tools or picks pockets, and kills everyone he meets, not talking if at all possible >:-) . Should be more interesting, particularly since the not talking bit means I'll miss a *lot* of quest XP, about 35,000, in addition to gear in chests with no keys, and having to set off traps for most of the game (with almost no HP).
