emiteal: I had problems running under Windows 7 and saw some topics on the subject, but all were related to disabling sound this and video that and none had any instructions on how specifically to do it. It occurred to me there might be a simpler solution. Here it is.

Locate the game executable in its folder. Right-click, open up the Properties. Click on the "Compatibility" tab. Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"

I chose "Windows 98 / Windows ME" from the dropdown. I also checked the boxes for "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition" in the Settings below.

Bang, game runs like an absolute charm.

emiteal: It's not a setting you change in the game, you have to navigate to the game's folder in Explorer.
