What are we going to do about Arx. I feel the game is still in alpha and I'm beginning to think no one has actually successfully completed it.

How is the game in alpha?
While the game is a bit buggy it is not nearly as bad as you describe; I have finished the game once (with multiple partial runs along the way) without too much hassle, and I'll certainly be playing it again in the near future, bugs or no bugs.
It failed on me once so i cant judge. I usually never play any first person or 3rd person video games. The only reason i gave it a chance was because the story was excellent. Im more of a top down view like diablo and baldurs gate. I would suggest just letting it go, gog probably cant find the way to solve its problems. Some games just arent meant to be played which sucks because the game has more potential than all of the elders scrolls games in my opinion.
I have just in the last day or two been unable to get my last two saves running. How very, very frustrating. Attempting to re-install. Having said that, this is the first problem I have really come across, after much playing of the game.
thats the problem, theres so many bugs and every user will get at least one game breaking bug. hence why i asked, has anyone successfully finished the game?

I would like a refund for this and I want gog.com to tell JoWood to refund them for the sale. I understand that some software will have bugs but this is just off the spectrum what they're doing here is outright fraud.
I have the CD version and have finished it multiple times without any issues at all. It is interesting to read all of the issues people seem to be having here with the game.

I just bought the digital version from GOG so I'll have to give that a go and see what happens. Though now that I'm using Windows 7 perhaps that will cause issues. Every time I've played the game in the past has been on XP SP2.
Oddly enough, I had been having problems loading my save until yesterday, when I tried some of the tactics outlined in the corresponding thread. I really like this game and was very frustrated by the glitchiness of it, but now that I'm back on track I am able to enjoy it once again without losing any progress.

I did feel somewhat cheated for a short while, but I understand that every game will work a little differently on various systems. In spite of this, I do feel it fair to point out that the game has the potential for buginess (though I've not encountered anything than the extended load times).
This is just one of those games, that doesn't play nice with newer hardware and OS-es. I have completed it successfully several times over the years and had much less problems close to its release than when ei tried it last time a few months back. The reasons are many and i don't think Arkane is to be blamed for all of them. Hardware manufacturers and Microsoft both seem to happily go out of their way to break compatibility with older games.

I did, and I am not the only one.

Except graphical glitches and the lag issues I finally solved, no problem for me.

Just look for free patches on the net... I had the same problem as the game would not load after I loaded a saved game, would stay black! After downloading the latest patch... Version 1.18 I think I had no troubles or any other bugs of any sort and completed the game without a hitch... Patches are free too and you don't need to re install or anything... Good luck! :)
GOG version already has the latest official patch (1.19). I wouldn't suggest messing around with whatever version you can get from the internet right now as there are no fan patches for this game anyway. At best you'll reintroduce the disc check and make the game unplayable. The bug with certain saves showing black screen indeed occurs while you save the game in some palces. The game should load eventually. Let's hope the game will be hacked by some talented fan in the future to remove these kind of glitches.

GOG is not selling faulty games; the corruption is occurring at your end.

First of all, try re-downloading those games from the My Games page if you haven't already. If you still get a corrupted file the second time, try installing the GOG.com Downloader and downloading them through that instead; it checks the download as it goes so should be able to get the completed file without problems.

If you're still having corruption problems even with the Downloader you'll need to contact support for further advice.
I have it running on Linux with Wine and have had so far no Errors!
