For some reason I couldnt rebind the controls after installing the mod (why is there no option?! O___o).

I checked the ini in the game folder and the controls were rebound from before.

After some searching I found out about the ini file under "saved games" in the user directory.

Rebound that. Nothing. Its still only responding to the default controls.

So... what file do I actually need to be looking for?

HUH!

I think I have solved my issue. Turns out "customise controls" in the menu isnt a header but actually clickable.
On clicking it, the edits I made to the ini file are applied and work in game.

Ha - i did exactly that for aaaages - didnt realise the header was clickable :)
