dscharrer: Hi, Arx Libertatis dev here.
How far did you get with installing AL?
Here's what need to be done to get it running under Ubuntu:
1. Add the Arx Libertatis PPA and install the game binary 2. Install the Arx Fatalis data You
have a few options for this, but as you already have an install under wine, the easiest will be to copy that.
First you'll need to find where PlayOnLinux installed Arx Fatalis - I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's somewhere under ~/.local/share/ - running this in a terminal should help:
find ~/.local/share/ -iname arx.exe Then
follow this section to copy the data. Replace
path/to/ArxFatalis/ with the directory you found in the previous step - but leave out the arx.exe at the end. If the path contains spaces, make sure to "wrap it in double quotes like this".
4. Copying save files Now you should already be able to to run Arx Libertatis natively under Ubuntu, but you probably have save files you want to keep. If you don't, ignore the rest of this post - you're done!
To do this, copy or move the
save directory (might be called Save) from the Arx Fatalis install directory you found in the previous step to ~/.local/share/arx/
Again, the save files and directories need lower-case filenames for Arx Libertatis to find them under linux - but the game should rename them for you on the first start. If you had already started Arx Libertatis before copying the save file, removing the ~/.config/arx/cfg.ini config file will trigger the rename check again.
Thanks for the tip it worked really well but i have since updated my computer and installed windows 7 and now with arx libertatis running properly the game works fine and i must applaud for the arx libertatis team i played arx fatalis a lot in my youth and libertatis is a great rebirth.
