So I'm trying to play this game with a controller, but no matter what I do with the settings, I can't get the car to make very small direction changes. There's always a 'step' where the car goes from going perfectly straight to turning too much. Since I'm running the game through Steam to make use of its controller configuration options, I tried changing the stick response curve to one of the non-linear options to get more precision around the middle. It didn't help, the 'step' in steering just comes later in the stick's movement. That tells me it's not a problem with the controller config but rather a deadzone enforced by the game itself, even though the steering deadzone is set to 0% in the options.

Anyone else have this issue and/or know of a way to fix it?

In aor you can control how immediate the input is by adjusting sensitivity and steering assist (in gameplay settings) as well. Perhaps lowering the sensitivity could help. There are handful of cars that are wilder than the rest, so this will affect your experience when testing.

Outside of in-game settings, the only thing that comes to mind is to slightly tap the steering when you want to make very small adjustments and see if that helps.

Thank you for the suggestions, but unfortunately none of those settings helps with this issue.

Tapping the analog stick is what I've been resorting to, and it kinda works but it makes the game really unpleasant to play. It's just far too easy to overcorrect and end up weaving from side to side.

I've been testing some more, and it seems to me there's another issue: Is it just me or does the car take a while to actually steer in the direction you're pointing? I can flick the analog stick from left to right in an instant, but it seems to me the car takes a while to actually turn the wheels in the new direction. Which is kinda bad, because then it's steering in a different direction than I'm instructing it a lot of the time. The controls just feel weirdly sluggish in a way they didn't in Absolute Drift, and I'm wondering if maybe this is the cause.

Things that may affect the turning speed are:
- the car you've selected
- steering sensitivity
- counter-steer factor
I tried das whip (group 4), drove in a straight line and started steering left and right. Input was very responsive.

aor really doesn't like third party software or additional input devices connected. So it's very possilbe that using the Steam controller settings with the GOG version of the game would mess up input.

Another possibly related thing. I had a similar issue with steering correction, so I tested my gamepad and my left stick's input definitely comes in steps and not as a steady increase comared to right one. So for me it turned out to be a hardware issue.

There are definitely people there that can give you more useful tips to improve your experience with a controller.
