Hey,

I am having problem with changing the language of the game. It seems to automatically choose my system installation language as default (Polish in this case), without giving me a chance to select the language manually. This is not a desired behavior for me, as the Polish translation is poor, inconsistent and generally cripples the experience.

My question is - is there a way to change the in-game language in the GOG version of the game?

For the Steam release there seems to be a work-around with changing the Steam client's main language, but it does not work this way with Galaxy. I have fiddled with pretty much every config file I could find, but with no luck. Changing system imput language does not help as well (Windows 7).

Hey Kelevandos,

We currently don't support GOG Galaxy so that's why it chooses the System Installation Language.

We're working with our localisers to get this translation updated, so we're onto it!

Can't you just add some parameters to the shortcut to change the language.
I have discussed this issue with the developer and it turned out insolvable for me, but I will post the solution below to help others.

What needs to be done in order to change the in-game language at this point is the installation of an alternative language package and switching the system to it. The documentation on how to do this may be found in the Microsoft documentation, just put "windows X language pack install" into your favourite search engine, replacing the X with your system version.

However, if you have a version of the system which does not support multiple language packs installation (like Windows 7 Premium, which I have) you will not be able to change the in-game language in the current version of the GOG version of the game.
by the way, the game expedtedly displayed in my installation language, and in just a couple of games i could spot some notable english-to-french translation error.

one about rolling dice (that was translated literrally)
another wording on a king's edict regarding the working of a bounty plaved upon player; translation makes the rule about it rather confusing

please, keep people here informed about any workaround; microsoft policy about "more than a single langage" OS became completely nonsense (and pricy)since win7 and above.

even with my pro version, i am not allowed to get an additionnal langage pack.

of course not your fault but just to mention that the above workaround won't work on a majority or people's version (who have mostly home or pro, but not premium/ultimate)

A few options so far are missing (according to game standard), either in game menus or at least as shortcut parameter: langage so, but also windowed version and screen resolution

I really hope there is a patch in the works that will add a slider to select your language of choice within the game in one of the menus. In this day and age, there is no excuse to tie a game to the language of the operating system with no easy option to change.

I am well able to enjoy the game in it's original language, so I don't want to be forced to deal with a translation.

Nobody cares about improved translations, people want to have an option for the unfiltered original in the language they happen to be able to understand and I find it more than unreasonable that you would consciously lock people to their systems language because... why exactly?

Just add a language selection.
It should be the easiest thing in the world and more than doable for a team producing such an otherwise polished game.
People shouldn't have to fiddle around with system settings and ini files to coax your game into doing something basic that is already feature-complete integrated in its guts.

Any answers to that?

Because at this point, I am not playing this game in any other language than English and won't advertise it either. That's the first time I seem a game being locked by their developers, from being played with its original language!!!

Is there any change on that?

I've searched and found description on how to do it on Ubuntu and Steam but nothing for Windows7/GOG.
If it isn't possible I'm gonna just refund it, it's already a sad joke that I had to crawl through config files and waste time searching for it on the internet because the dev's are incapable of creating a drop down menu in the options...

Paysafecard refund is going to be a drag but it's worth it I guess...

Just contact GOG support, they might give you a refund if you explain the situation to them.

I just wrote them. Didn't have any time yesterday and I didn't want to ask for an refund immediately.

Makes me kinda mad that such a simple feature is not implemented. I don't think it ever happened before...

Still, the very first time I ask for a refund in over 20 years of gaming, lets see how gog does. :)
I usually just live with bad purchases but this time I feel kinda cheated.

Hey Glaziola,

Having support for GOG to change languages in-game is actually not a simple feature for a small indie team, it's quite a task that we can't currently prioritise just for GOG.

The more support we get on GOG we may be able to justify it, just not right now.

Hi,

I honestly have a hard time seeing how it would be complicated.
If the game is properly prepared for multiple languages it should just be a matter of setting the locale to be used.

As it is now the locale is set by reading the system property but it should be a joke to change that to a value passed as argument or read from a config file and using the system property being the fallback.

Heck, even if it is totally messed up and the game checks the system property on every text before showing it should be easy to refactor it to a variable that it keeps itself.

Apparently it's possible on steam , I have a hard time what possibly could make it so hard to implement the functionality on GOG.

Also, frankly, if the GOG version lacks really basic features like these I cant see people recommend it, on GOG or Steam. I certainly wont.

You're right Glaziola, this is ridiculous. As a proof of concept I've posted on this forum a solution to change the game language.

I must be a game major like EA or Ubisoft all by myself, considering I've managed to do what LoG was supposedly too small to do...

I should be able to make further modifications such as adding a "-lang" command line parameter, but that would require more code changes and likely a binary patch, which poses legal issues posting in public since binary patches usually contain original, copyrighted game code as well.

Eventually I did change something else, that's the random number generator initialisation procedure : in the original game, it initialises based on the number of milliseconds since system boot, which I changed with an initialisation based on system entropy.
