It will work under windows 10. I choose to run it as compatibility mode windows 7 and also Running as admin. The UAC that comes up from running as Admin says that its from an unknown publisher. So I think that's the main problem :3

Another Note: New Lag as well, -no3d and -doublebuffer seem to fix it somewhat.

Another minor update: UAP enabled window mode. That totally broke under Windows 10. Probably something to deal with the windows refresh rate dx12 or ddraw, no idea. I'll look into the problem with debug and see

Fresh install of Arcanum on my laptop (all default settings) results in the game running fine - if a little fast. The game defaults to my Intel HD 5600. Trying to force it to run with the nVidia GTX 960M results in it switching back to the Intel HD after the Sierra logo, so I'm not certain of the performance there. I haven't tried any of the unofficial patches yet.

Something Noted, On the registry if you try to run the compatibility wizard, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers\

You will find after Arcanum : "~ DWM8And16BitMitigation WIN7RTM RUNASADMIN". An interesting thing...

Also on the Microsoft website, you can find other compatibility strings. Note I wouldn't try adding these things manually, just as information about some of the strings that are added to Registry when you run said wizard, education purpose if you ask me.

So far I've had no problems with Win 10. All I did was set the .exe to run as admin, nothing else and it runs fine.
I was having some nasty lag on Win10. I tried a fix that worked for Kohan, which was compiled wine dlls. I have no idea how it works, but it does - Arcanum runs butter smooth with them.

Game works well for me in Win10x64. I found that deleting or renaming the ddraw.dll in the game's root directory makes the game run much, much better--the problem is that the ancient ddraw.dll doesn't mix well with up to date GPUs, drivers and OSes.
Ok so Im not the best with computers and can´t seem to get Arcanum to work on my win10 machine, is there any step by step guide on what to change, what do download and so on? Really love this game and feel like playing through it again. :)
Deleted ddraw.dll, all lagginess i had prior deletion is wanished. Thanks waltc :)
Just reinstalled the game but finding no file called "ddraw.dll" the only dll files I can see in the arcanum folder is "binkw32.dll" and "mm_won.dll" and "Mss32.dll" so got no such file to delete that I can see. :-/

I guess you aren't using the GOG version, then?
Trying to play this on Windows 10. When I erase the ddraw.dll file, it simply does not work, and when it is on site, the game starts, but for some reason the main part of the screen either stays completely black or gets filled with the conversations between the characters, which only disappear when the main character moves around. Any suggestions to fix that?

I'm having the same problem on my Surface Pro 3, running Windows 10 64 bit.

*update*
I have it working now. Added "-doublebuffer -no3d" in the Launch Arcanum shortcut

Ok a litle confusion here -and I am sorry if I am missing something - I just bought new, high end computer (Windows 10) and I had Arcanum on my old 8.1 machine. If I install arcanum on my new computer, should it work?

It should, but you will probably have to modify the 'Launch Arcanum' shorcut to add the -doublebuffer and -no3d switches. The 'target' box of mine (using the default install location) looks like this :

"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Arcanum\Arcanum.exe" -doublebuffer -no3d

This works fine. If you want to play in high res / widescreen resolutions, you will likely need mods, but see other threads for that!
