It seems to close itself after a flash, and there’s no any warning or error log.

I’m using Windows XP without Galaxy (Galaxy requires at least Win 7 anyway).

I had trouble with the game having random graphic errors and sudden crashing on Windows 7. I found that it was the ddraw.dll in the game directory that was the culprit. Rename or delete it and try running the game. Worked for me!

Wow, it worked! Thank you so much!

Btw, how did you find out that it was the ddraw.dll file? Did you use some kind of process monitoring app or something?
The ddraw.dll included with the GOG version of the game is a compatibility layer for Windows 8/10 as the DirectDraw API has been deprecated on newer versions of Windows. Hence the file causing issues on Windows XP/7, since it wasn't needed in the first place.
