When you highlight an enemy in this game it brings up little pictures that indicate things that might be affecting your chance to hit. Generally it's easy enough to figure them out (squinty Eye means distance penalty, light bulb means too dark etc.) but what does the red cross indicate?
Hi, can I see the screenshot?
From page 56 of the manual:

Examining Creatures in Combat.
If the Character is in Combat Mode, a player who hovers the cursor over an enemy
creature will receive useful information in the Message Window. This
display will give an estimation of the Character’s likelihood of hitting the
creature with his primary weapon (see Figure 3-17). If some factor is reducing this
likelihood and the player can affect this factor, then an icon may appear to
indicate the presence of this reduction. Figure 3-18 shows all of the possible icons
which might appear in such a message. These icons, in order from left to right are:
the Weight (which tells us that a Character does not have sufficient Strength to
wield the weapon he holds), the Target (which indicates that one’s target is beyond
the range of one’s weapon), the Eye (which indicates that the target is beyond
Character’s range of Perception), the Wall (which informs us that the
target is hiding behind partial cover), the Bulb (which indicates that the target is
dimly illuminated), and the Red Cross (which informs us that the Character is suffering
an injury which affects his Combat Skills).
Hi guys.

So I guess you need to be injured to see this red cross, maybe I have seen this before but I can't remember.

How can I see this red cross in my game just to test it? What kind of injury I need to have?

You say that so casually. ;)
You should give the manual a read just for the lore and the style it's written in, but there are some valuable things to be learned. The first few times I played the game, I always got annoyed at not being able to pick up certain ingredients because they were too close to trees - but then I looked through the manual and found out you can drag objects and bodies by alt-clicking them. In combat mode, alt-clicking makes your character attack doors and chests.
Hey guys.

I have never crippled my arm before ... maybe I have but I don't remember.

I want to try to cripple my arm just to test this for fun.

What is the best and fastest way to cripple my arm?
Shooting a rifle with low Firearms skill and high Magic Aptitude?
Or hitting with a damaged melee weapon with low Melee skill?

Thanks in advance.

I have Chronic restart syndrome (I make alot of characters in this game that don't get near the end) and have owned this game for over..probably 2 years now and this was the first time it happened to me. So at low levels at least this is pretty rare, but if you want to try and induce a crippled limb I would try using melee attacks with no skill at all, with born under a sign trait so when you critically fail it's more likely to do something serious, and make attacks at the targets hands because this games mechanics are...eccentric if you crit fail while back stabbing you somehow stab yourself in the back and the bonus gets applied so I wouldn't be surprised if crit fails on called shots have a similar effect. Anyway if you're curious about what it did I seemed to have my odds of hitting with my boomerang reduced by 20% and I had Doc Roberts fix my arm.
Thanks rushmutt, I'll see what I can do.
