Still doesnt work for me! Whenever I hover the mouse over menu options the game freeze for several seconds, but if I dont then it works fine. Before this I would get black screen in game (after char creation) except the HUD but now I cant even start a game

FINALLY FIXED THANK GOD

''Hey there. I just bought the game too and had the same problem (Win10, GeForce 1080). To fix it, you need to add the following parameters to the game shortcut (in Start Menu): -no3d -doublebuffer. RUn the game from the start menu shortcut.'' -rootsrat

I added shortcuts on a fresh install with no patch or anything, easiest fix of my life

Thank you!
Worked perfectly for me - now it's 1600x900 in window, as I wanted.
Thank you so much! the game went from painfully slow and jittery to smooth as butter.
Thank you for this infomation, seems to be quite the perfect setup for the game.

Earlier I had problems with some lagging and some such, but now they seem to be gone.
Good evening,

I have followed all the instructions and the game seems to run quite smoothly but I'm not satisfied with how the game looks in fullscreen. The characters and icons are very small, like we are higher up than in vanilla version (GOG 1.0.7.4). Is there a way to "zoom in" and make the icons and menus biggers, other than playing in windowed mode? (I really hate playing in window mode)

Your resolution is too high.

He defaults it to 720p which is close enough to the original 4:3 800 x 600. Unfortunately everything will be scaled to your resolution and look a little blurry (even if you have a 1440p monitor, as they still apply a bilinear or similar filter instead of nearest neighbour... which is absolutely pathetic since it's an elementary issue to fix. They are aware of it, just not a focus since it's not an issue with major titles).

Btw I had to disable g-sync to get it work, and found the performance with dxwrapper to be poor in comparison to the stable ddrawcompat release for whatever reason. They've been forked apparently.

Once in-game, the hi-res mod works for me, but all of the FMV movies, load screens, and menu screens are still small and centered. Is this the way it's supposed to work, or am I missing something?

Thanks for sharing this guide or instruction for Arcanum on Windows 10. This one helps me out in using Arcanum.

Yea that will work pretty fine for now.

With Regards,

It worked for me as well, with the high-res patch the game stuttered, but not anymore after replacing the ddraw.dll in the way you described.
This method worked great until the recent hotfix. Highres broke completely for me, and completely unplayable.
Any word on what to do about it since the latest hotfix? Completely unplayable for me too as well.
Fortunately, if the hotfix broke everything, it's possible to get the pre-hotfix version instead via Galaxy--go to the game's page, open up 'Settings', and then uncheck 'auto-update to the newest version'. It'll give you a selection of previous versions to roll back to. Select 1.0.7.4.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find an equivalent setting on the site.

Hi guys,

Just can't configure the game to run smoothly in the window whatever I try (the insrtruction from the first message of this topic being the first). The best I managed to do is to make game run in a small centered window, but even that is unplayable, since the game glitches and does not render any actual image besides dialogue options.

Any ideas how to fix it?

If everything else fails you can install Linux (Lubuntu for example) and install it via Wine where it works perfectly. Or you can install a Virtual Machine and Windows XP on your desktop. BTW, is it possible that you had Arcanum previously installed and there were some leftover files somewhere? Because what the OP suggested should have worked for clean installation.
