Sorry if this has been answered already but I cannot save the game. No response from either pressing ESC, F7 or ALT plus those keys. What should i be doing?

ARRRGH

this is so frustrating - just got killed by the constable for saying he was useless! I really wantto be able to play this game - but I can't save!

It's so maddening - is it just a terrible bug that I can't unfix???

Please help me!

I have never seen this behavior before... can you give us some more information about your system? What OS are you running? If you are using Vista or Windows 7, are you running the game as administrator? Did you install to the default location (program files)?

You might also investigate the unofficial patch if you are not using it already. I have no idea if it will fix your problem because I've never encountered it before, but it might. More info on the unofficial patch here:

Many thanks for replying. I'm running Windows XP. I initially installed a Sierra filed but then reinstalled to Program Files.

I've done some internet searches and have found others who have had the same problem - ESC, F7 and F8 not working which has been attributed to the alt-tab bug, but not in my case.

OK, on XP the install location and running as administrator shouldn't really matter. So other than pointing you towards the Unofficial Patch, I'm not sure what else to suggest.

You say that others have seen this behavior relating to using alt+tab? How exactly does that occur? If they alt+tab out of the game and then back in, those keys no longer respond?

i've linked the thread. it doesn't seem to relate to my problem unfortunately. no key or combination of alt+ any key bring up the main menu!

yes everything else works fine. Other F keys work too (follow, spread out etc). Alt+F4 gives quit option (though no save). graphics all fine though I've only played to shrouded hills. no probs with map etc...

its just accessing the main menu which I can't do. I have reinstalled the game - now located on my program files under gog

...any ideas?
when i go into modules i can find find files under save (poss using quicksave) TMN file which I can't then open. Tried opening using Arcanum but with no success

Ok, this is a huge stretch, and I can't try it out myself. But is there a way (via some *.ini maybe) to remap the keys? That could be a workaround...

well i used SharpKeys to swap Escape with End...had high hopes but still nothing!! Really disappointed, was looking forward to playing this one!

That is really f*cking wierd. Could you post your rig? And have you tried redownloading it? ( Yeah, I know stupid question, but I'm running out of ideas really fast ... )

Edit: If I remember correctly, quick save was alt+s... do those keys work if pressed seperatly?

And another idea: Are the folders(subfolders, files, etc) in which the game is installed "write protected" or whatever it is called in English...

If all else fails I would remove Arcanum entirely (including the setup files) from you're computer and re download it from gog.

I have to press Fn plus F7 to save and Fn plus F8 to load. Don't know if that helps.
