So, I'm thinking of buying this one, but there's one thing that bothers me. Does anyone know if the game supports widescreen resolutions straight out of the box? If not, then are there mods or something that would help?
The native resolution of my laptop is 1440*900.

Yes it does.
I ran it at 1920x1200

Thanks. Now I can get to correcting the mistake of never trying this game when it came out.
According to this list, Aquanox stretches the image to fit the widescreen resolution. No idea if GOG fixed this.

If it's true that the game stretches the image for widescreen, then you can probably set your graphics drivers to preserve aspect ratio and then run the game in a 4:3 resolution, which should letterbox the image on the sides. So it won't be widescreen, but at least it will not stretch.
I'm not sure if all graphics cards allow this though (my current rather old one doesn't seem to, as far as I can tell).

They all do assuming you have a straight DVI connection.

I do have a straight DVI connection, but my video control panel doesn't seem to have the option to choose to preserve the aspect ratio. Do you know how to set it? I've got an older NVidia card right now, I think it's a 7900.

Should be available on your card:

Nope, I don't have that option on my control panel. It goes straight from "Change Resolution" to "Adjust Desktop Color Settings" on that list. I've got the latest drivers too.

That is very odd. Contact Nvidia?
Some monitors also have aspect-correction settings. I know my 23" Acer does. I prefer to use it to NVIDIA's.

Doesn't appear stretched to me. It might if you chose a non-widescreen resolution, perhaps . . . but I chose 1920x1200 and it looks correct. No distortion when I roll, so pretty sure I'm not just missing it. :-)
Edit:
Oh, right: ATI drivers, latest revision (but it's a FirePro, so they're a bit different)

Aquanox runs well on my laptop (1366*768) without scaling.
