Hello,
bought Anno 1503 today and started to play.
Twice within an hour it crashed to the desktop saying "anno 1503 does not work anymore"
Any idea what to do?

Bought also 1602 2 weeks ago and played it a lot, having not such a problem

Edit: By checking the windows eventlog it seems the crash happened in the AnnoDisplay.dll
I'm using a Radeon R9 290X

Regards

It runs fine on my 64 bit win7 laptop so I'm not sure what the problem could be. Perhaps try fiddling with the compatibility settings?

edit: It's a shot in the dark, but I did notice anno 1503 crashing when I tried out certain resolutions. Without having to go into the game menu, you can change it in the registry. Look for Software\Max-Design\Anno1503 under HKEY_USERS
There will be a SCREENMODE key which you can give values 1,2,3 or 4 I believe, for the different possible resolutions. I'm using option 4, for 1280x1024

Also make sure you are not alt-tabbing, i noticed it crashed when i do that. Got Win 7 64 bit and works just fine, as long as i don't alt-tab out of it.

Mine has been crashing for a long time now when I load some of the harder scenarios.
I keep getting the runaround from UbiSoft and the older developers and it`s apparent no one cares because it`s an older title.
GOG should not be making money off of this game when it doesn`t work on new OSs

On my laptop, Anno 1503 runs on Windows 7 64bit without any problems, even without adjusting any compatibility options or having to taskkill explorer etc. Unfortunately, I don't know how to fix this problem for you but it can't be a general incompatibility, otherwise I would not be able to run it on this system either.

Important as well, GOG provides all support for old games. That is part of their agreement with license holders. Get in contact with GOG's support and they should be able to help you.
It also fails to work for me on Windows 7 64-bit. I've tried all the compatibility settings and those do nothing. I also have no entry for SCREENMODE under Anno 1503 in my registry. I have no idea if the install is broken or what. It's irritating since the older Anno 1602 works fine.
Running Win 7 64 bit, and just wanted to report no problems in terms of Anno 1503 (on second mission of campaign, probably about 4-5 hours in game time so far). My GPU is an Nvidia and the PC is one i built myself (to rule out a specific manufacturer build issue). I can even alt-tab in and out the game with no issues.
