Hi folks,

I have a little problem. Everytime I enter the sendormitory (and only there), a strange yellow fog occurs which prevents me from seeing... well, anything farther than 3 inches.

That wouldn't be a real problem, but like some of you might know, there's a red bipidri in there somewhere, which is impossible for me to locate because of that fog.

I'd be very happy if someone could tell me how to remove that fog. Hell, I'd even be happy if someone told me where exactly in that room the red bipidri is, so I could try to photograph it through the fog (if that's possible).

Game is fully patched; OS is XP SP 3, graphics card ATI HD 4650 (already tried a few drivers with no effort).

Thank you very much !

Is this the GOG version, or a patched version from elsewhere? That fog bug should be fixed in the GOG version.
It's the original retail version from around 2001, so it's not from GOG. It's fully patched, including fan patches till build 46. I thought I'd post it here since it was the only active forum I've found that deals with Anachronox.
It's actually strange, since I can't remember this bug happening a few years ago when I played this.

Is it known what caused this bug ? Can I fix it myself ?

Don't want to buy the game again for one red bipidri. *sigh*

It's an anachronox bug, combined with a graphics driver bug. Well, probably not a driver bug as such; it looks deliberate. Basically it no longer sticks to the opengl spec in order to make one function very slightly faster. On old graphics drivers you'd end up with fog that was white instead of orange, but at least didn't flood everything. On new drivers, you get the orange.

The GOG version has a code patch for it. It's probably possible to fix it in the map file for that particular map, but I have no idea where in the map files the fog colour is stored.

Maybe you can solve it by running it in 3Dfx with the latest nGlide.

Sounds an interesting technical issue, do you have any more info on this?

There's not much else to say. Anachronox passes an out of range value to a fog function. According to the opengl spec that function should clamp its input parameters to the allowed range, which is what it used to do, but at some point it stopped. As a result, you now get silly fog on the bugged maps.

Thank you very much !

I've run it with nGlide and the yellow fog is gone now.

@those who might stumble here (just like me):
Fully patch the game including the fan patches at least till build 44, install nGlide (latest version) and set Anachronox to 3dfx mode in the Anachronox GCT Setup and run the game via the anox_v2v3.bat file in the game directory (otherwise it will crash). Enjoy!
