I've had Anachronox since it's release, but despite owning the game for that long I've never actually finished it. Closest I came was the final boss fight, which at the time was too frustrating for me.

I bought the game from GOG and decided that this time I'd actually finish it. Not only that, I'd grab all the collectibles and complete all the side missions. It's surprising how incomplete the available walkthroughs are.

Regardless, much to my chagrin, I just realized that I missed the opportunity to master Grumpos' Yammer skill. I knew where to get it, but for some reason I assumed that the relevant NPC would stick around. Well, the game progressed and that NPC moved on/disappeared.

I don't have any save files that I can use to go back before that point. It would also be far too back time-wise.

Is there anything that can be done? Save file editing to master the skill? Game data file editing?

Although I can't help you with this, I was wondering if you could point me towards what you think is the most complete walkthrough. I'm thinking of doing a completionist replay and maybe even finishing the final part of the game - when I first played it was glitchy and Detta was literally impossible to beat with my characters and equipment. I'll probably play again on easy or normal, otherwise the battles can be awfully grindy.
I too had Anachronox from its release. I too am now replaying it (thank you GOG team for the refit). I *think* I finished it the first time but that was so long ago everything is like NEW again.

I found the JMerrilll walkthrough to be the most complete but not entirely. I do web searches to try and form a more complete picture (and I've found tidbits of info not attached to any walkthrough). I like to explore so don't always use the walkthroughs but I hate MORE when a door closes (such as the NPC with a worldskill) and I can't get it. So I scan the walkthroughs for important info and otherwise ignore the group recommendations and whatnot.

As for missed loot/skills/what-have-you, there is a console command for just about everything. See http://anachrodox.disinterest.org/appendix/console_commands.html.

This represents some SERIOUS alteration/cheating of the game so be sure this is what you want to do. Your actions, and the results, are your responsibility. I tested the following on my own game and it seemed to work fine but you do so at your own risk.

First you have to be in debug mode: (be sure to backup the file first in case things go awry)
-edit ..\anoxdata\CONFIGS\ default.cfg using notepad or other simple text editor
-change "set debug 0" to "set debug 1"
-save the file

Now start Anachrnox as usual and after you have restored the universe at your desired point do the following:
- press ~
- type: extern "set_world_skill_level yammer 2"
- press enter
- press ~
- check Grumpos has the master world skill. If he is not yet a master of his world skill then something went wrong. Return to the console and double check everything you did (up/down arrow keys retrieve previous commands).

The double quotes in the extern command are required. If you forget them the console will remind you in a round-about way.

Once you've had enough get out of the console, save and quit the game (or just quit, depending if you have the desired effect or don't). Edit ..\default.cfg back to "set debug 0" (or restore your saved file version as the one to use).

I edited my previous post but the time of the last post didn't change so it looks like there was no new activity in the thread. So...

*bump*
Thanks for the replies, guys!

I just bit the bullet and restarted my playthrough.

The Walkthrough I've been using is the following:

Apparently links are borked, but I am using the UHS Walkthrough for Anachronox.

Considering that I'm not worried about spoilers, the format is a bit annoying. Aside from that it's a very good walkthrough with information that many other walkthroughs lack.

Again, thanks for the replies.
Started up again. Wow! I usually have to wait at least 18 months before I could do something like that. :)

This is what I have for the JMerrill wakthrough if you want to compare with UHS: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/196605-anachronox/faqs/23678

+1 The above-linked Walkthrough; however as stated it's not 100% accurate or complete (but it is complete for all the collectibles and most other things).

The places I remember the walkthrough being a dodgy, misleading, or missing stuff:

- It misses a lockpickable door on Sunder Station. There's some Mystech behind it, but nothing terribly exciting or important.

- Cheating through doors:

The bits where it says you need to "cheat" to get through doors on Sunder and Hephaestus (The Nine Enigmas) - you won't need to do that if you've patched your Anox to the latest patches (both official and fan-made). In both cases you can get to those areas (and if I'm not mistaken, through those very doors) - just not at the time specified in the walkthrough. That is to say, in both cases those doors WILL be open to you at some point later on - I think the walkthrough is being hasty, and I'm not sure those closed doors were ever bugs to begin with.

The UHS guide says the same thing with respect to The Nine Enigmas. The time to get in there is AFTER you've spoken to the Grand Mysterium - not right after doing the Abbot's quests. Unfortunately speaking to the GM starts a cut-scene which ends with you back on Sender Station. But since there's another reason to go back to Haephestus anyway (possibly a couple of reasons), it's not a problem, and when you go back it will be unlocked.

- Shop Listings are incomplete (especially for the later stages of the game)

Almost all weapons and Mystech should be available in at least one of the in-game shops. This is often at a plot-point or two later than you can get the weapon for free (e.g. by doing side-quests), but it's a good option if you don't want to grab every single character and take them through the same environments over and over.

This includes most of the best weapons (possibly all of them?). But since the OP wants to do all side quests and get all collectibles, it probably doesn't matter in that case; but could be useful for others less diligent in their questing.

AFAIK the only thing that's truly "unique" are certain shieldcells. There's one for each character, but you'll miss out on getting two every game - unless they are also available in shops...

ALT+SHIFT+F10 turns debug mode on and off in-game, no .cfg editing required :)
