I just bought this game but it won't even start up. It gives me a black screen. I have windows 7 64 bit.

Things I've tried:
1. renamed anox.exe to quake3.exe
2. click the startup on each screen resolution
3. tried on windowed mode
4. Admin the install exe and admin the game exe

Nothing seems to work. Any advice?
Also can you exchange games or get a refund on the game if it doesn't work?

Rename it back to anox.exe

Have you tried running it in Compatibility setting's

Try XP mode (Service Pack 2)

OR:

when starting the game press ctrl alt Delete and goto task manager->Processes and choose the game file Anox.exe right click on it and click on "Set affinity" and click on <All Processors> then close task manager and click on the games Icon near the start menu that should fix it.

Neither of those work for me. I have WIN7 64-bit as well. It also won't let me "Set affinity" in the Task Manager because it is already crashed by the time it appears on the Task Manager. It says something to the extent of: "The operation could not be completed. Access is denied."

Really annoying, since GOG states it works with WIN7. So much for replaying a great game. Fix please GOG!

Do you have DirectX 9.0c? If not, download it and install it:

Don't worry, it will NOT replace your later versions of DirectX (DX10 or DX11). It's simply used for older games.

Also, if you haven't done so already, grab the latest drivers for your graphics card.

In fact, can we get some more info on your system? What processor and graphics card do you have? Are you running on a desktop or laptop?

NEVER EVER run the jun_2010 version it will kill your pc I did that and I had to end up re-installing win7 because they are 32 bit drivers and not 64 bit Dxwebsetup gives you the 64 bit versions

Are you sure? I'm fairly certain I installed it on my 64-bit Win 7 machine using the link I provided, and had no problems. I definitely did not use a web installer, so there's a 64-bti version somewhere. But I'm sure the web installer is fine too.

Yes there are 64-bit versions I did the Jun2010 ones and BSOD, restarted BSOD windows Locked RIGHT UP Bsod on startup geez dude your one of the lucky ones tell me do you have a dual core or a quad core?

Yes, I've got a core i5 when I go into single core mode the sounds go all buggered makes playing games like thief 1 and 2 a real pain in the ass.

I am trying to run it on my laptop.

It is an ASUS G73J. Has an i7 7200 M with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5780 with 1GB of VRAM and 8GB of system RAM.

I haven't tried it on my desktop yet because I would rather play it on my laptop than desktop.

One thing I have noticed that I didn't before is that my computer seems to think anox.exe is an installer because it asks me if I want to allow anox.exe access to make changes to my computer from the User Account Control.

I have checked on ASUS' website, and they don't have any updated graphics card drivers and if I try the ones from amd.com, they eff up my computer to make it unusable.

I also tried the Windows 98 compatibility mode and that still crashes.

Maybe it has something to do with my User Account Control Settings??

Still don't know where to go from here. Any other ideas would be appreciated! :)

Edit: Also, it has Windows 7 Premium 64-bit with SP1.

Try installing it not in %:\Program Files (c:\games for example).

UAC is EVIL turn it off! and make another folder called Program files without the "(x86)" at the end of it install your game there and not in the "(x86)" version.
