I get this on every launch attempt. I'd think an Nvidia 9600 is a hw accelerator. (Win7 64bit, running from user account as administrator)
I've had this same issue running Win7 64bit as well. What has to be done to get the game to work?
Very strange I'm running Windows 7 64bit aswell and I don't have any problem.

Hi. I had this problem and i solved it. I think opengl is not supported by Amd (i'm using hd 4770) or nVidia. I downloaded and installed opengl 4.2 driver and opened the game succesfully.
I had a similar issue with Unreal Gold last night. It had the option of software renderer, D3D and GlideFX. Softeware renderer was ugly and GlideFX only allowed a windowed view at 640x480. D3D allowed resolutions beyond that plus fullscreen. Which I think is pretty odd too since nVidia bought 3DFX which created Glide. They own the assets of Glide now and have not used it since the acquisition.

Anyone remember that one sword and sandles game that would ONLY support the 3DFX Voodoo cards? Totally snubbed OpenGL and D3D. Can't remember the name. Just remember not being able to play it on my TNT2 Creative Labs card after installing the demo. Shame, looked like it might have been good.

Your thinking of The elderscrolls: REDGUARD aren't you
Actually both AMD and nVidia cards support open gl. Most likely your graphics drivers were not at the latest version.

Thank you! That's the one.
Would have loved to be able to play it with a TNT2.
