I recieved my copy of the game and downloaded without using the GOG Downloader, and found that the installer would hang after accepting the license agreement and clickining install. There was no disk activity. Upon cancelling the installer, the installer then crashed.

I subsequently downloaded the installer using the GOG downloader and got the same results.

Is this a known issue? Does anyone else experience this? Anyone have any solutions?

Running:

Win 8.1 Pro
Intel i5 4760K
8GB RAM
GTX 770

I have the same problem.

Have similar specs like the above.
Try right clicking on the installer file and select Run as Administrator

I would also check your install location on the first screen instead of just accepting EULA and then next. Put it in something like c:\AvP Classic. I would also suggest unchecking the desktop shortcut box and see how that goes.
thx for your help, lain, but unfortunately none of these things worked. still stuck in installation process.

Sometimes installing on a storage pool or network share can cause similar issues, although in this case I haven't seen any issues using a storage pool.

I'm using Windows 8.1/64 as well.

Ok

Try this instead then, right click install file and select Troubleshoot Compatibility

Click Troubleshoot program

Next screen check the boxes :

Worked in earlier versions of Windows
Program requires additional permissions

Now click next and select Windows 7, if 7 doesn't work you can change it to XP at another attempt

Now click next and then Start the Program and just follow the rest what it tells you onscreen
Hello,

When you say "hang", does it mean that the GUI is frozen, and the billboards don't change, or it's just not doing anything?

Please run the installer, so it hangs, and send me a log file - you can find it in the Temp folder (usually C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp), and the file is called "Setup Log (date) #(number).txt". If you sort the files by date, it will be the newest one.

I had similar sounding issues: the install took the best part of 15 mins to complete. That's after the download via the GOGdownloader helper app had completed. I left it as I wasn't in a hurry, but any other time, I'd have assumed things had got stuck and killed the process.

1. It seemed to stall/not progress on the initial install, at around the 90% mark. The installer billboards were still cycling throughout and processes were not claiming to be "not responding", although to be completely honest, it was taking so long I took to reading websites elsewhere and left it going.

2. Upon initial install completion, it took an age to update/patch and finally boot the game, with seemingly no visual feedback from the installer to be patient while it did "stuff"

Around 90% is the moment when DirectX and Visual Studio redistributables are installed. It can take pretty long on some systems.
However, the first post stated that the installer hanged just after clicking "Install", so I think it's a separate issue.

I'll look into the second issue you mentioned - from what I understand this happens after the installation is complete, when you try to start the game?

hello, sorry, I didn't see this reply. Yes, the second issue was the booting of the game after it had installed in step one. It notified that it will update and that process took what was, IMO, an unusually long time. I'm remembering things now, as I didn't crack out a stop watch at the time, but it felt long enough for me to question if things were OK.

If it will help, I can try and wipe everything and attempt to retrace the steps.

No, thanks - I just wanted to know at which stage does the problem occur.
