rhemorigher: I'm thinking I've played against you a few times - does that make it fair to say you are one of the regular players? If so I was wondering if some of the more experienced players would consider doing recordings of online play with commentary on what is done by experienced players and why, I mention this because I've seen a lot of people leave games simply due to unfavourable kill/death ratios and maybe some resource for them to get online play tips before jumping in would help them have more fun.
I'm not really regular, my schedule won't really permit me, but I try to be active when able. Olde's done a great job with his tutorials and there's little I can add to those. Heck, I've learned a few things from him myself. He's an old-school player, while I got into it with the Galaxy beta. Still, we're both usually open to giving tips and some in-game tutoring. Also, we will often change species if we see our opponent is inexperienced, just to make it more even and entertaining for them.
One thing I'd like to point out is that you don't need to follow his advice to the letter, unless you want to become hardcore competitive and care for the score above all. It's a valid approach, but the beauty of the game is in just how much freedom it gives you. Learn the important bits - movement, awareness, health and items - so that you're better able to survive, but it's entirely possible to play the game for the fun of it. For instance, I like to play a lurking, motionless alien that patiently waits out its prey, almost a role-playing thing. I don't always - people might get bored and just leave - but it's an option.
