Had no problem with installing or launching it.
The thing I hade problem was the game it self. It is bad, really BAD.

Thank you for the game but after 5 minutes I had to uninstall it.
The game is actually really good imo, but at first it might seem a bit odd thanks to the engine and the movement speed but after a while it becomes a pretty tense and fun game.
I'm not loving the game myself either. The stages are horribly designed, it doesn't matter if they are human or Alien buildings everything is so non-distinct and non-descript and so ugly that a lot of the times you don't know if something you can interact with or not and you can easily get lost or forget you're in the ceiling and not the floor and fall to your doom when you release LCTRL. A lot of things with the lore also are a complete mess, but that may be because I'm a fan of Alien(s), I can enjoy Predator, but I'm not crazy about AVP.
Some mechanics are cool, mostly everything that has to do with things like Aliens' corpses causing damage due to their tails moving and their acid blood. Flares are cool and add to the ambience, but it doesn't make any logical sense that fucking colonial marines don't have night vision goggles, also that you can't spam them even though they are limited and there's no way of knowing when they're going to run out or be available again.
The acting is also atrocious, the sound settings can't be fiddled with to make the voices audible and there's no way one can read the mission voicelogs transcripts when they fade away that quickly (although one can re-read them by pressing F1, but that's also very inconvenient).
Multiplayer has worked for me, but I entered a game which players had set to 1hour+ of killing aliens in a very small stage with unlimited (o so I think) respawns. It worked ok, no lag or anything but, really, is that all there is to AVP's multiplayer? Being stuck with the same weapon for matches this long killing endless hordes of aliens with no set goal (going somewhere alive, not dying a final death...) and with player death being so uneventful?

They do - Image Intensifier, default keybind "Q". Be careful not to blind yourself with your own flares...

Oh, really? I suppose I was using "N". But I even took a look to the keybord config and I didn't find Night vision anywhere. My bad :P
Well, it pretty much set the standard as the best Alien/Predator game to date back then cause to be frank, there weren't any bloody decent game involving this franchise.

It hasn't aged well. Graphics is a no brainer, but more importantly the non-existential plot or story which basically reduces the campaign to a feel of playing 'map pack'.

Monolith's sequel was far superior.
I think the game is ok (7/10 in my opinion). However there are lots of things that could be improved. I've only finished the predator campaign so far, but here's my opinion anyway:

1. Melee: first, there's no such thing as damage direction indicator, so when an alien sneakily attacks you, there's no way to know immediately where the alien is. Second, moving will push enemies away from you. Sometimes it takes 7~8 tries to make a successful strike. Third, sometimes melee simply doesn't work. I don't know why, but when I and the alien both stand still at close distance, my melee attacks would fail to hit, while the alien killing me. In summery, melee works 70% of the time for me, but the other 30% it's annoying.

2. Elevators: why i must leave an elevator immediately after it reaches a floor, or I'll be sent back to the floor I'm from? Minor but annoying.

3. Hint message: they disappears too fast and will never appear again. If I miss one of them I'll have to go watch a walkthrough video or I wouldn't have any idea how to finish the level.

4. Speargun: There's no way to know how much ammo is left.

5. Only three saves in a level, why? The player is forced to play the game with extreme cautious and this makes the game a lot less fun.

6. Facehugger: wtf???? Yes I'm mad here. This tiny little creature pose more threat than an alien queen. It's fast, hard to hit, and it would insta-kill you? No thanks. No.

I'm not saying the game is bad. but it is not a very good one.

1. Agree.

2. Agree.

3. Agree.

4. I have to agree here, when I first played AVP I thought it was cool they went with the predator's number style, but they should have at least subtitled with normal numbers

5. You can enable unlimited saves, i forget were, but you can do it.

6. In the movies the facehugger is how the aliens reproduce, they latch on to your face insert a tube down your throat and lay an egg in your chest, so it would be an eventual game over no matter the results. but yeah they are pretty much insta-kills for that reason, silly and a bit annoying but there is logic behind it.
Yes the game is old. But i actually think it's a really good game. Sure the alien and predator needs some effort to learn how to play and in this gaming age of mediocrity learning how to play is no longer an option.

The marine levels is another kind of learning: You need to learn the levels. Once you know what to do they can be finished in less then 10 minutes and are really easy even on the hardest difficulty.

EDIT: The SP is actually really different to a normal shooter and need some time getting used to.

I am not a fan of the multiplayer and I think it's a really big mistake from gog to use this game as a MP stress test for galaxy. These games and especially their MP is really for a very select audience. So most people will play the MP for 10 minutes and never touch it again. They really should have gotten something like quake or UT...

problem is Id is now owned by Bethesda which is firmly in steam's camp and Epic has pretty much left PC games development.

I know but a game with a wider appeal would have been a better choice. Hell they even have some of the UT games on here so they might have well used one of those for a stress test.
I like the game, but it's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. It is still IMO a successful AvP game. It captures a lot of the feel and fun of the Alien and Predator franchises.

I'd say a solid 7/10 and that's mostly for the Predator campaign. I really had fun with that.

Problem is they would have to patch the games to use Galaxy and for that to happen they would need to ask Epic to patch it to support Galaxy, and that would be problematic at best and impossible at worst, not technically, but in time and likely would need lawyers, and since AVP1 is now cheap (its a little over 5 bux CAD on the steams) its something they a) could offer for free and b) still get dev support on as I am sure rebellion is helping out on this.

I think Monolith's AVP 2 was the BEST AvP game, I didnt like the AVP remake in 2010 but compared to A:CM (a game which I pray never finds its way here.) I look at the 2010 AVP in a much more favorable light.

I have to disagree with most of what you say here.

1. I have no idea what you mean by "melee." Only the alien really uses melee attacks. You don't have to be so close that you're touching the enemy for a claw attack or tail swipe to hit. Claws are mediocre, a charged tail attack is an instant kill against a marine or alien. The predator's wristblade needs to be charged to be worth anything, and in multiplayer, you have to be very good to pull off hitting enemies with the wristblade because it actually has a delay.

2. Very minor, but eh, get off the elevator then?

3. Press the console key (default is tilde (~)). This will bring the message back up. Although if you didn't know this, I understand the frustration.

4. Speargun ammo is located in blue predator numerals in the bottom left. You start off with 30 spears and don't encounter any pickups. Each full cluster represents 9.

5. I don't know what you're on about. In Training mode, you get 9 saves; in Realistic you get 4, and in Director's Cut you get 2. For the original release of AVP 99, they didn't include saves at all. That was how badass it was. You needed to do the whole thing in one go.

6. The facehugger won't hit you if you keep moving. If you got facehugged, it's because you stopped moving to find it. It also takes a second before it leaps on your face. If it's that much of a problem, spam your pulse grenades, get out the tracking mode of the smartgun, or spam the flamethrower.
F1 also repeats the messages

Facehuggers: listen, you can easily hear when one is near. Flamethrowers are really good, keep moving, keep calm, they go down really fast. Sure it's an instant kill but it's easily avoidable...
