Recently my friend visited me and i had an idea to play AvP in multiplayer. I had AvP on my desktop and installed it on my laptop. I have created multiplayer game but my friend didn't saw it. We both saw other games in multiplayer "join ..." option, but he didn't saw my game nor i couldn't see his game. Both computers are connected through router so both are sharing same ip. Also on both computers i have logged in using same account. Can it be reason why they didn't see each other?

I know that multiplayes is working because other people could join game I have created on desktop or laptop.

That's precisely it. GOG have designed Galaxy so that the same account can not join the same lobby/game. Additionally, you can't make a dummy account, because the game verifies its licence on it when you try to access multiplayer. Ironically, you can join or create as many games as you like with the same account, just not join any of them. Yay, GOG -_-

So, unless you have a second account with a second copy of the game, you can't play each other. I've tested and investigated this myself, sorry :(

That really sucks. Can you do 1v1 via LAN?

This smells suspiciously like DRM to me.

P.S. I fully intend to play through Baldur's Gate with my kids in 5 years or so. When those installers are updated to use Galaxy, I wonder if it'll kill that chance, too.

But Galaxy is an optional client. So some multiplayer LAN content should, I hope, stay available. If not, then honestly, what's the difference between Steam and GOG? I hope GOG is carefully examining their own implementation of DRM. If I need to have DRM in my games, then I'm going to Steam. Their games are far cheaper, overall.

All AvP multiplayer is routed through Galaxy. No Galaxy, no MP. How do you like them apples?

For games that relied on a client or system server, it makes sense. But not LAN play. GOG says that we can put the games on any of our home computers. But now they're saying we just can't play them with each other?

It's their company and they can do what they want. And some old games will be great to be able to play MP. But this will drastically change my purchasing habits of MP games. If it's a newer MP game and it's stuffed with DRM, then I'm buying where it's cheaper, not where I feel like I "own" the game.

Their excuse is that the game "doesn't support" LAN play. Technically, that's bullshit since the game is P2P, but it's another excuse they have, blaming the publisher.

If you have any issues with that, take it up with GOG. I think they consider this game finished, done, and forgotten. Notice there's no mention anywhere that the multiplayer is still in alpha testing.

Btw, do you have the Witcher Adventure Game and can you confirm if the situation there is the same? Or is there hotseat? It would be rather ironic if one can't play a digital board game with family...

It has nothing to do with GOG, it has all to do with Rebellion's revision to the source code. They intentionally removed LAN play from the game. If you really want to try the game on LAN, download [url=http://homepage.eircom.net/~duncandsl/avp/]sirlemonhead's patch, AvPx[/url]. It should work with AVP Classic.

I have it but I had a recent wipe that cleared it away. I'm pretty sure it has hotseat.

Thank you all for reply. If someone from gog is reading this maybe it should be good idea to buy additional license for 1/th of first one (eg. 99cents) becouse now i have to create additional account just to play with someone who visits me.
