I just had this issue where the game would launch and it was minimized. If i clicked on the program in the tray the screen would flick black then see the "alien versus predator" screen adn then it would simply re-minimize.
I couldn't find anyone else reporting this issue.
However, PCgamingwiki lists a d3d9 renderer which i installed and the game works fine now.
