Hi! I just bought and installed The Nations Gold, f game I remember playing when I was younger. However, because of some problems I can't really play the game.
The two main things are fixed screen resolution and flickering cursor. Now, I've read a topic which described similar problem with screen resolution and luckily using troubleshoot program helped. However, I still have a problem with the fact that whenever you move the cursor it kind of flickers a square area around it which also messes up with graphics behind it.
Really hope someone knows how to fix this. Thanks in advance for any response.
P.S. Let the man have his nostalgia trip :)

I have the same problem with the flickering cursor. Does anybody have any ideas?

Yes same thing here, the flickering mouse cursor is too annoying to enjoy the game. Did either of you solve it or are there others who may have done so?

Update:

Interestingly enough, when running on Windows XP SP3 the flickering cursor is gone. But under Win7 its there no matter what compatibility settings I've tried.

I have the same problem on OS X with Wineskin. The only issue is the cursor flickering. :/
Same problem for me (well, that and it runs slowly and uses an absurdly small font for most of the text). I messed around with the compatibility settings a little bit, but that didn't seem to help.
did anyone ever figure this out?

It doesn't seems :/ For me, when I'm in game, when I move the cursor, he blinks and slow a lot FPS of the game.
I only figured out how to change the resolution.
If you find something for the cursor one day, I'll gladly hear it :)

You have to use the Tools.exe in bin to change the graphics settings, under Troubleshooting. Try some options, (Voodoo will definitely work).
Check the screenshots

I tried Voodoo, but nothing changed concerning the issues and same when trying to copy your own settings.
But thanks for the help & suggestion :)
Game isn't unplayable, that's the most important (even if this issues are a bit annoying).
Windows 10 64-bit here. I also have trouble with flickering mouse cursor. No matter which troubleshoot or compatibility settings I choose.
Did everything I could do in Troubleshooting with Tools.exe

- I can Pas the Intro.
- The Menu works fine.
- I can Prepare and Select a Skirmish Game and the Tutorial.

...but when I start a Game/Tutorial the Screen stays Black, with "Esc" I can enter the "Options Menu" and then I select "Restart Game". Finally I can st......... Well, all I can see is a lot of Water. No map to play on.

GOG Team, HELP ME :(

I can Play "The Settlers 3" on my Rig so there must be a way to Play "The Nations".

PC Specs:

- Windows 10 64-bit
- 16 GB RAM
- AMD FX8350 8 Core
- Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5

I have the same problem, help.

edit: I found a solution. Install the game outside of Program Files. Eg D: \ Games \ alien \ The Nations Gold

Hi I'm having trouble getting into the game. I just installed it, and it will let me create a new game technically, but the only thing that appears on screen is the ocean! There's no land, or people, or anything. Is anyone else having this issue? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but that didn't help the issue. Please let me know if you have a solution!

This worked for me. Except the tools.exe file is in the tools folder. Also I found it best to leave the AGP Texture Memory and Texture Limit on their defaults and just set the Resolution to my native resolution (in my case 1920x1080) and it worked!
