I'm running Alien Breed through Boxter (The MacosX dosbox wrapper)

The game asks for a copy protection code at the start of the game.

I can't find the copy protection tables in the shipped manuals or see any way of suppressing the copy protection request in the dosbox config files shipped by GOG.

The copy protection screen goes after you press any three keys but given the start game won't allow me to start it I'm guessing that's because it does want genuine codes.

:(

It doesn't require genuine codes.

What do you mean by "it won't allow me to start"? Enter key doesn't work in AB, you select menus using space, have you tried that?
I'm having some problems playing the game as well. I can get past the copy protection screen by I just hitting the Enter key three times, but I can't get past the main menu. Hitting Spacebar does nothing. I can move up and down with the arrow keys to change the number of players or to change how the credits work, but I can't actually start the game.

EDIT: Ok, so apparently only Alien Breed isn't starting. I can play Alien Breed: Tower Defense fine, but regular Alien Breed isn't allowing me past the main menu, no matter what key I press. Maybe it does have something to do with the copy protection screen at the beginning...the Tower Defense game doesn't have that and I can actually get into that.

EDIT 2: Found out the problem! On the main menu you have to press Backspace, or the "seccondary fire/use terminal" key to actually start the game.

That's kind of weird...I guess I kind of get why that is, since Backspace is basically the "use" key in the game but...I really wish the fact that you have to hit that specific key at the start to actually play the game was listed somewhere. Normally you'd think to just hit "Enter" or "Spacebar". Oh well...just glad I don't have a busted game

You can rebind keys by running the config.exe file. You will need to run it using DOSBOX. If you are not good with Dosbox, use a launher program. Also, you can use the primary fire button to go through the main menu.

Run config and change the keybinding to something that makes some sense and to your personal preference I Had very similar issues at the start since the default keybindings are kinda stupid.

as for the copy protection (lololol - a old school copy protection on a gog game well it made me laugh then look back with nostalgia) just mash the enter button :D

Also A Heads up don't bother setting graphics mode to Direct3D this will happen

DirectDraw works awesome though

Perhaps Boxter is the problem, as we haven't encountered the problem.. You can try running the DOSBOX mapper (ctrl+f1 on a PC, I guess the apple button is the equivalent here ;) and rebind the keys at will to suit your needs.

Hope this helps!

I also got the code screen.
I pressed space & then enter & it runs.
any random 3 letters / numbers seem to work too
There is nothing about these issues on the support page. The info about starting the game with backspace and getting past the copy protection prompt would be helpful. I assumed wrongly that the reason I couldn't start the game was because of the copy protection. That led me on a fruitless wild goose chase. I only needed to know about the backspace requirement for starting the game.
