Just recently bought Alan Wake on Steam and after that, saw it on GOG and so regretted it. You also get nice extra goodies at the same price of the one on Steam atm. Going to start looking on GOG before I make anymore purchases on Steam >.<.

Same here, I bought Alan Wake when it first came out on PC on steam. Would have rather have bought it here. OH well, live and learn.

Well, in defense of your situation, this really is an unprecedented first. Alan Wake is the first Steamworks-based game I've ever heard of to be released anywhere without the Steamworks integration. Things are looking up.

BTW if you pre-purchased Alan Wake American Nightmare you can open a Steam Support Ticket and ask for a refund. You can choose whether you get the money on your Steam Wallet or is resent to your buy method (when you pay with Paypal I suggest you to put it on your Steam Wallet instead). I didn't expect Alan Wake on GoG and read in an article that Alan Wake (American Nightmare) is both on Steam and GoG. And GoG is much better than Steam ;)

However.. I repurchased Alan Wake from GOG as soon as I saw it.. I was like NO WAY instant buy..

Its an awesome game and even better DRM free.. people may say that steam is a great digital distributer.. but its also a form of DRM..

what happeneds if steam goes belly up tomorrow.. (wont happen) but if it did you would loose access to greate games..

Well of course if you don't download your games and then something happens to GOG (or you lose your 'net connection or so) then you won't be able to download them. But all the games you have already downloaded from GOG would still work just fine - you'd still be able to install & play them for as long as you keep the installers safe, even if you want to install & play them on another system.

With Steam you'd *probably* be able to continue playing any games already installed (assuming offline mode doesn't break) but you can forget about installing & playing those games on another system (or installing any games backed up but not currently installed) without resorting to cracks. This often gets brought up but that cannot be relied on IMO. First, it's not in their EULA. Second, IIRC that was said back in 2004 when the only games on Steam belonged to Valve anyway - while I'm sure they would untether their own games from Steam, I don't think that other publishers would appreciate them stripping the DRM from all of their games.

Although Valve have commented before that in the event they do go belly up they will ensure access to the content you have paid for is still available.

IMO, anyone that thinks this will happen is a fool. If the company is going belly up, I figure the last thing they're going to worry about it untethering games. They'll have far more pressing matters to occupy their time.

As far as GOG goes, as noted, you can DL and back up all the content and use it even if GOG goes under. Anyone that's in the least bit concerned that GOG's servers won't be around forever and doesn't back up their games is foolish.

I was debating repurchasing it as well. Not only do I want a DRM free version but I enjoy remedy games, would like to see more alan wake.

Valve have NEVER EVER officially stated such a thing. It's a myth.

Digital data is impossible to preserve forever... Regardless of where you buy it from there is a great possibility that you will one day lose access to what you've purchased... but then we'd probably just resort to pirating it I guess.

I think you misunderstood my post. I was saying that if you're in the least bit concerned that GOG's servers won't be around forever, then you should back up your games. If you don't, you're a fool.

Thanks for the reminder. I'm not super-concerned about my games - even if I lost access I have not purchased enough to really care to the point where I pull my hair out - but of course that's still something I need to do, because I do enjoy the games and would like the option of playing them in the future. :)
